@spoggioli1 @NPR Mille grazie. Brava! Your reporting brought us everywhere. You helped listeners understand the world thru vivid, compelling stories that dug below the surface. You carved a path, inspiring generations of women (including me) to become pub radio journalists. Sempre avanti!

Today is MY last day with ⁦@NPR⁩ after 41 years! I want to thank the most curious, attentive and loyal listeners a reporter could ever hope for and who traveled alongside me on a long, wild ride. Arrivederci!!!

Making these cookies is the most productive thing I’ve done in 3 days (other than vote and pay my bills). My admiration to anyone who can guess the “secret substance” in them.

So while I have your attention, it’s my job as a journalist to remind you of them, too. I met Khanzada in 2019. He and his little brother grew up in family of farmers in a small village in Nangarhar’s Khogyani district.

@katejgonzales Identify which specific kinds of media outlets you plan to pitch to and find out their rates and process for vetting pitches. Before you pitch an outlet, read the work they publish so you know their audience and the format/style/approach/conventions they use.

Topics I plan to cover include: Questions to ask yourself before launching a freelance career, setting & sticking to your rates, the importance of saying "no," identifying your beat. What am I missing?

Fellow #freelance journalists: What are some good resources for those looking to break into freelance writing? What do you wish you knew before you got into it? I'm co-leading a workshop on the topic and want to provide tips, resources, warnings, etc. #writingcommunity

I plan to write more frequently about mental health here and possibly on my blog. It's important to destigmatize mental health treatment. The world we live in is bananas, and nobody deserves to go at it alone.

My first therapy session in over 2 years is this afternoon! I was in rough shape when I began therapy in my 20s and am happy to be returning to it as a healthier person today. Also, all the money I earn through my blog will go toward therapy or freelance expenses.

Finally, we have another first-time opportunity for mid-career journalists! If you have a great idea for a complex story about race/identity/social justice, we can provide 💲💲and editorial resources to turn it into an episode of CS. More here: (4/5) npr.org/sections/codes…

Some personal news: Friday is my last day @CapRadioNews (loved it here). I'm joining @KQEDscience as a climate reporter. I plan on geeking out on science/hearing how cc is changing people/culture. Lately, I've wondered: If we valued consent would we even have a climate crisis?

@RadioKitty Caregiving is the most important work we do for loved ones + others. Can be painfully difficult, meaningful, heartbreaking. So exhausting. There’s only so much a human being can bear. Be kind to yourself, keep asking for support, take the day in small pieces and LIMIT news intake

I'll be honest: I do not know how to handle the accelerating Covid threat here, a parent in hospice AND the siege on democracy. Forget self-care. It isn't working. Six more days ...

I just don’t want to hear anyone else on tv or the radio say they can’t believe this is happening in America. It was signaled and projected. It was foreseen and forwarned. After all the falsehoods and fanning of grievances... it was...sadly ... inevitable

@rekha6 Yeah, it’s a human decency thing. But no one should expect human decency from a megalomaniac.
