Launched from Pag-asa Island 5:40 AM , the mission involved a small team navigating a rubber boat, led by Akbayan Rep. Dadah Kiram Ismula alongside Atin Ito volunteers. Despite the heavy Chinese presence in the area, the team reached Pag-asa Cay 2 and raised the flag, reporting that they slipped past multiple Chinese vessels monitoring nearby waters. “Matagumpay po nating naitaas ang ating bandila sa Pag-asa Cay 2 sa kabila ng mabigat na presensiya ng Tsina,” Ismula said, calling the action a peaceful but defiant stand against illegal incursions. “This is a defiant but peaceful act of resistance against China’s aggression within our waters. Our message is clear: the West Philippine Sea is ours. No amount of intimidation can erase that fact,” she added. Pag-asa Cay 2 is situated firmly within the Philippine's territorial waters and an extension of Pag-asa Island. Recently, it has become a maritime flashpoint, with reports of Chinese Coast Guard presence and Philippine patrols. The area is long subject to China’s expansive claims and nearby artificial island-building, and the mission underscores a growing civic movement asserting Philippine sovereignty despite escalating tensions.
