Can anyone explain to me why we have to continue to pay property taxes on our land and motor vehicles AFTER we have paid them off? As far as I’m concerned, it is indefensible because it is theft.

Paying taxes on income is dumb. There is absolutely no justification for punishing people for working and being productive members of society. But of course, the pro-tax turd nibblers will reply with the usual deflection, “But muh, what about government programs and services?” I don’t care. ✋ For one, the vast majority of government programs and services are inefficient. Second, the only things that the government should provide are the most basic functions and services: law enforcement, the courts, and national defense. That’s about it. To fund those things would require some revenue sources. That is, taxes. But taxes should only be consumption-based. The more you buy, the more tax you pay. There should be a national sales tax on all items that are not needed to live. Food (not including junk food), clothing (basics), medical supplies and medications, basic home appliances, and petroleum should be exempt. If you are unwilling to compromise and insist that there must be an income tax, then the alternative proposal is a flat tax such that everyone has the same percentage of their income withheld for said taxes, regardless of income brackets. Any other opinion on this issue is wrong. We are overtaxed, over regulated, and the government wastes our tax dollars.

@ChrisMartzWX I agree with the consumption tax. You also need tariffs or at least the consumption tax on all imports. Also a tax on cash on hand over 1 million, hoarding money in a bank account damages the economy.

Really misleading, irresponsible and lazy reporting from CBC this morning Health Canada issued a warning yesterday about the dangers of injectable peptides that are coming in from the US: "Injectable peptides are regulated as prescription drugs in Canada." CBC's story takes the warning and warps it by associating peptide use with a fringe "looks maxing" community... and then has their paid physician, Chris Labos who speaks as an "expert" on every medical topic every week, expound The Health Canada warning states "Peptide drugs affect the body's functions and are often used for bodybuilding, anti-aging, or enhancing athletic performance." No mention of CBC's "looks maxing" cohort. A responsible report would have mentioned all of the known groups and highlighted potential dangers to them (Health Canada warning in reply) CBC misinformation by hyperfocus on a small subset of potential user groups. It's weird It looks very much like they had a story on "looks maxing" and had the good doctor booked and needed something for him to babble about @brodiefenlon
