@newbandsphase @keithjones84 Is that the same cemetry as where Robert Tressel, of "The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropist" fame, is buried? Some legacy.

@keithjones84 James William Carling who was from the Holy Cross area of Liverpool is buried in Walton Park Cemetery. He produced a series of illustrations for Poe’s The Raven.

Walton Vale, 1970s and 2026 I only recently heard that the Wetherspoons here is named The Raven because there is some Walton connection to Edgar Allen Poe. I think his illustrator was from there...

@NewWaveAndPunk Jeez, waybto make me feel old; I saw them open the Heaven Up Here UK tour there 45 years ago this month, Mac taking the piss out of the Forest fans because we were on our way to another European Cup. Great gig, great band. Sticky carpet.

Back to August 1980 and Match of the Day. Bob Wilson rounds up the transfer news while sat in front of a giant game of Connect 4. How business used to be done.

@Kurgan1453 @aroundliv No turning from the Right Hand lane. Always use that exit, feels like a secret passageway, and love emerging to the Liverbirds

@OnJambos41038 @1968Tv My next favourite depuction of football on screen would be the classic Likely Lads episode about avoiding the England score. The man who takes the bet....Brian Glover. And he had no love for the game, big RL fan (and professional wrestler)

@TheAnfieldWrap Can't put my finger in it, but something very old school about him. Upright stance, high elbow action when he runs? Don't know, but very impressive so far.

@LeeMck9 @henrywinter Fair enough, really hope you do well next season. Especially if it's us who win the title he costs you. (I do think he is a good signing for you)

Leader, mentor, winner. Granit Xhaka would be an inspired signing by Sunderland. He's 32 but still a force in midfield, still playing internationally (137 caps and counting for Switzerland). All that experience and guile and knowledge of the Premier League (225 appearances). All that dedication and application, he'd be a role model for Sunderland's younger players. Whatever Xhaka costs (fee/wages), he'll surely be worth it. #SAFC

@EdwynCollins Further muddies that "Were Television punks or not" debate, because that's both proto-punk and proto-Television - seems Television were post-punk before punk had really happened! Had Hell already adopted his (punk) nom-de-plume at this point? Or Verlaine his French poet one?

Lyrics/songs where the voice is third-person, telling a tale? No I/me/you. A vignette of a play of a scene of something interesting. I think British music excels at this. Mostly Blur. Anything to offer?

@LFC @premierleague The tunnel cam version of that goal in the Inside Anfield video is brilliant, should be set to the Benny Hill theme tune as a stream of players sprint past, trying to catch him.

@TonyIncenzo Opposing team trainer coming on with the bag and the sponge to tend an opponent when 2 players from the same team injured at the same time. Virtually immediate and without any prompting. Unthinkable today.

@twlldun Just had a theatre rerelease, but nowhere I could reasonably get to see it, sadly. The next speech was Greene's work, and chilling- If I said you could have twenty thousand pounds for every dot that stops, would you really, old man, tell me to keep my money?...
