What a find yesterday - Trewhiddle strap-end in silver, 9th century. Found by a metal detectorist in our group, as its silver it will be declared as treasure. Once that process is complete we'll be donating it to the museum. Our first from this period. Delighted 😊 @findsorguk

@eastvillageguy 18 years ago my (now) wife and me booked a trip to the Killing Fields for maybe $10 each, as a 'bonus' they threw in a free AK47 with full clip to shoot into the jungle. Bear in mind this was immediately after seeing the mountain of skulls at the site

People always say that movies aren't documentaries and that "they know" that X or Y movie isn't perfectly historical. The DAMAGE, that Braveheart has done to people's perception of the middle ages (and Scottish history) is still yet to be undone, 30 years later. It's astonishing how much this movie shaped people's view on contemporary politics, ideology, fashion and warfare.

Campaigners are fighting to prevent developers from building 190 homes in Angmering. The plans were rejected by Arun District Council in June after 1,700 people rejected, but Gleeson Homes has lodged an appeal with the planning inspectorate. More here: bbc.in/4p2mhNg

03.30. I’m excited to reach the western point of my adventure today. I’m cocooned in my wee tent against the rain. I’ve a warm glow of a job pretty well done & there’s more to come. This undertaking is more significant than my others. At the age of 61, I’ve rediscovered joy.

Plummer didn't like the script for Waterloo, and rewrote most of his lines to include "real" Wellington quotes. Well I have looked into a few, and he really did a deep dive on Wellington to get them, you don't find them in a single biography, they are spread across many memoirs
