📊Unequal futures? Fascinating paper by @Kanitkar et al just out in @Climate_Policy shows persistent inequalities in incomes, energy use, and emissions in 556 model scenarios assessed in #IPCCAR6. Even up to 2050! ead more here

🌍How can academics align their practices with the deep and rapid reductions in emissions required to meet international emissions targets?
Check out our Low-Carbon Travel Guide for experiences and inspiration from CET's researchers👇

What would be the best result now at #COP28? The talks are deadlocked over whether they should call for an eventual end to the production and consumption of unabated fossil fuels. This is what the globally agreed goal of limiting warming to 1.5C requires. What are the options? /1

@GGrimalda's story is baffling-
higher ed & research institutions are locked into high-carbon travel patterns, and his actions are the type leadership we need to address what is today still considered a taboo @transflight

Pleased that @NatureCareers published my story. I do hope that my experience will give employees the right to #RefuseToFly on conscientious objection grounds. 🙏@JSchrage12 (@UiBCET) for arguing that "such behaviour should be encouraged, not reprimanded.” nature.com/articles/d4158…

To limit global warming to '1.5°C with no or limited overshoot', the decline in global CO2 emissions relative to 2019 are:
* 48% by 2030
* 80% by 2040
* 99% by 2050
It is 2023 & global CO2 emissions are still rising!

Norway’s oil & gas exports typically bring in $30bn/yr, but in 2022 rocketed to $130bn. This is a similar scale to the entire Marshall Plan of 1948-51!
Using the windfall to underwriting risk could completely change the climate game...

While reducing energy demand and consumption is needed, it is also hugely challenging. In this piece I argue that cities, and most spec. civil servants, need to navigate 3 tensions to advance local climate action shorturl.at/elMX4 @UiBCET @UiBsamfunn #socialpractice

@sachbon @KA_Nicholas I think you might find some good answers in @HavardHaarstad 's piece on "The accountability of climate targets"

How do targets in policy like 'carbon reduction xx% by 2030' (that actually seems improbable) enable OR, on the opposite, actually hinder the practical work to reduce emissions? Any thoughts
@JosefinWangel @KeriFacer - did we talk about this at some point?
