Tar spot (Phyllachora maydis) continues to build across southern Georgia. Earlier and much more widespread than in past years. A threat to late planted corn and, in some instances, to early planted corn as well. It matters. Thanks to @thebuffsciguy . UGA Extension

Powdery mildew is not as harmful as pecan scab but at a certain level will cause nut quality issues. As with scab, some varieties are more susceptible than others

This is why it can be important to give pecan varieties resistant to pecan scab a spray or 2 anyway. Scab is not the only pecan disease around. These Excel pecans have not been sprayed at all. They are scab free but varying amts of powdery mildew present.
