In Austin, I noticed a new omnipresent look among the men. Baseball hat with salad coming out of the back. Heavy scruff. No tan. White muscle shirt under plaid button down. Jack Donoghue/MLB/white construction worker chic. Sudden, identical, and everywhere. Stepford bros.

The way I picture it a bunch of pioneers were like WE'RE GOING TO CALIFORNIA and they go in their little wagons with the sheets on top all across Nebraska and Kansas and eastern Colorado and then they arrive at the base of the Rockies and then were like eh this is fine.

As a kid, it was everything. We didn't have everything at the tip of our fingers. So the dopamine rush of going to Blockbuster and picking out 1 or 2 movies for the weekend was much stronger than the dopamine rush of scrolling through 8 streaming services to decide what to watch. We have it *easier* now, and with way more options. But is it a better experience, as stated? I'd say no, and not even close.

It’s the stuff. The rapid accumulation of stuff. They keep outgrowing things, getting gifts, doing arts and crafts, and you have to constantly exercise that “this is going in the trash” reflex to stay alive.
