Yesterday morning I heard that my long time mentor, colleague and dear friend, Greg Philo, passed away & I’m still reeling from the shock & sadness. It’s difficult to articulate the importance of Greg in my life. I simply wouldn’t be doing what I'm doing were it not for him. 1/4

Sir David Butler with his personal copy of the Times Guide to the House of Commons 1945, the actual volume which led to Butler - then only a 21-year old Oxford undergraduate - developing the idea of “swing” in elections - the foundation of what soon became known as psephology.
Kim and I are celebrating our 45th anniversary this week. I say 'week' because it depends whether you take it from us meeting when I was collecting for some striking Sheffield workers or from our first 'date'. Either way, I've got a lot to thank those strikers for. They won too.
