Cold War Puerto Rico - the story of how Washington used the tools of 'McCarthyism' to keep its Caribbean fortress as a colony. Most of the people on the cover of my new book were imprisoned multiple times in the 1950s as J Edgar Hoover orchestrated a red scare on the island. 1/3

Starmer is the worst-of-all-worlds prime minister. He wrongly caves in to Trump - putting us all at risk - and doesn't even get any thanks for it. Pathetic.

"It's been a very late response." U.S. President Donald Trump says the UK should have acted 'a lot faster' over giving permission to use military bases in the Middle East to strike targets in defensive operations. trib.al/mS5oYCO 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube

This is not "self-defence." It's a collective escalation of an illegal war that the US and Israel should never have started. As now confirmed by multiple insiders, there was no "imminent threat" from Iran. The way to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping is to say NO to Trump.
Sky News@SkyNews

The government has given the U.S. approval to use UK bases for "collective self-defence" in the Middle East, including "defensive operations" degrading missile sites used to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Sky's @NickMartinSKY reports. trib.al/kdHSQqK

This is a reckless act of escalation that endangers us all. No discussion. No debate. What a disgrace. How on earth can the Prime Minister still pretend we are not involved? It doesn't matter how he dresses it up. Britain is participating in an illegal war of aggression.

"Freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of international law, including under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea", say the UK Government BELOW WHAT ABOUT the US blockade of Cuba? Does the British Government condemn it? If not, why not?

Vassals bow to pressure... They say they're ready to make "appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage" through Hormuz. But it was safe until the US/Israel started bombing Iran. The simplest "appropriate effort" is to oppose the war. But what they mean is they're joining it.
UK Prime Minister@10DowningStreet

Together with our allies, we condemn in the strongest terms recent attacks by Iran on unarmed commercial vessels in the Gulf, attacks on civilian infrastructure including oil and gas installations, and the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces.

Looking forward to visiting @redemmas bookstore in Baltimore on May 14 to discuss Cold War Puerto Rico and all the issues it highlights: the island's colonial status, how 'McCarthyism' was used to enforce it, its military importance, Monroe and more. See: redemmas.org/events/

Ossoff asks: Was it the intelligence community's assessment that there was "an imminent nuclear threat posed" by Iran? When she repeatedly deflects, he says: "You're evading the question because to provide a candid response would contradict a statement from the White House."

Here’s Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia questioning US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on the timeline of communications over whether there was an 'imminent nuclear threat' posed by Iran. He ties her in knots.

That's something that many people aren't aware of: China is actually a major oil producer, the 5th largest globally with 4.32 million barrels per day. They actually produce more oil than Iran does (Iran is the 7th biggest).
Reuters@Reuters

China, the world's top oil importer, succeeded in a seven-year campaign to boost its own production, achieving a record high last year with aggressive drilling at ageing fields, an offshore boom and nascent shale oil output reut.rs/40IXq6j

The US is suffocating the Cuban people with its criminal and inhumane blockade. We cannot sit idly by. That’s why we are mobilising to Cuba, bringing critical humanitarian aid for its people. Honoured to join this historic mission with @ProgIntl.

Yes, Trump does have to explain himself. When he's waging an illegal war, putting us all at risk from retaliation, creating a massive refugee crisis on Europe's doorstep, and trashing the world economy. We have to pay for his reckless barbarism. So, yes, we've a right to know.
Confidence & Paranoia@1878BlueSoul

Can someone - like a UK Government Minister - explain THIS? How is it that the West insists on passage through the Strait of Hormuz while AT THE SAME TIME it is stopping ships & blockading Cuba in an attempt to STARVE the Cubans? MAYBE @BBCNews could ask this, FFS?!?
