You know what? I wish SFF books still had covers that are paintings depicting a scene from the book. Instead of a snake or an apple or a sword or other boring stuff that all looks the same & tells you nothing about the book. Bring back painted covers!

There's a kind of "feminism" which wants to valorize things associated with women without asking why they are associated with women. Girl math, pink cups, beauty culture, not working, romance novels. You can't diss those things or you hate women.

Indie authors: What made you go indie? Me: Obviously, I was rejected hundreds of times and got tired of being told I was “not the right fit.” But what really made me go indie and never query again were the following statistics that came out of the Penguin Random House court case: 1. 20% of books published by the Big 5 only sell 12 copies in a given year. 2. 90% of trad-published books sell fewer than 1,000 copies in a given year. 3. Trad publishers allocate less than 2% of their annual budget toward marketing. I figured if I was already doing better on my own than most in the trad space without doing any sort of advertising, then what was the point in trying to get in with a crowd that never wanted me in the first place?
