@elonmusk In many engineering areas you can skip the whole process by hiring remotely.
I'm not interested in the USA timezone, but you can offer people salaries that are lower than the ones you pay over there, but higher than the ones we get here, and save yourself the visa thing.

Maybe this is a helpful clarification: I am referring to bringing in via legal immigration the top ~0.1% of engineering talent as being essential for America to keep winning.
This is like bringing in the Jokic’s or Wemby’s of the world to help your whole team (which is mostly Americans!) win the NBA.
Thinking of America as a pro sports team that has been winning for a long time and wants to keep winning is the right mental construct.

What an absolute miracle Elden Ring is. In the DLC is basically an entire second game. Take your time, you will only have one glorious first play through. It’s been fantastic quality time with my son before he goes to college.

@jfversluis I have a suit of integration tests that check for eventual consistency of the read models, running dozens of them in parallel with 250ms timeout works in my machine. Timeouts smaller than 15s almost guarantees that at least one of the tests will show a failure.

For comparison here is a self-hosted runner which takes 6 minutes in total for the whole thing.

Either I’m doing something terribly wrong, the GitHub Actions runners are insanely slow, there is a bug in Xcode or all of the above, but this is bananas.

there's a tic I notice in lots of people's thinking, and I'm trying to come up with a good name for it. it's a kind of misunderstanding of probabilities. hypothetical eg: "getting a tattoo will make you unattractive to some potential dates. so you shouldn't get a tattoo"

so this is a cute lil joke etc but it also triggers one of my pet peeves about talent shows and job interviews and generally speaking people overindexing on the opinions of some small handful of people when you can just go straight to market

In 2016, @garybernhardt gave a talk on reproducibility at StrangeLoop which I thought was quite good. It clearly explained a non-obvious idea and came in well under time.
