
FODMAP maybe helpful for select groups, and if it is helpful it is likely exposing that something else is wrong. Typically flare-ups are a symptom of something else. Like SIBO.
Masking the symptoms is American medical culture. FODMAP is basically an extension of that culture in my opinion. Though, it can help starve SIBO but it's not a cure for it.
I have a son who has a very rare genetic disorder affecting motility and he is extremely sensitive to many things.
After experimenting with FODMAP… I would look at the Gaps book. Gut and Physiology Syndrome. It's a much more holistic approach, science-based, real results. And has helped my son. My son is a unique case with the genetic disorder that he has so he is a very sensitive individual.
