@libsoftiktok @Hopkins270 The actual writing in the memo is so awful and unclear. They could of at least put it through an AI re-write so its coherent.

I agree with the quote. However, if youre taking govt funding, receipt of this money does come with expectations of how the institution will operate. If Harvard wishes to operate free of expectations, then it ought to refuse funding, utilizing institutional resources & endowments

@bariweiss These scenes out of Syria are grisly to be sure, but some of them were reminiscent of prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay and detained after 9/11.

We have all seen the videos out of Syria over the past days. Of sons massacred in front of their mothers. Of young men, soon to be executed, made to crawl through the streets and bark like dogs. Theo Padnos doesn't need to see those horrific videos to know their evil. That's because he lived it. From 2012 to 2014, he was tortured by the jihadis who now control Syria. He listened to them dream and plot the death of their enemies, in particular the Alawites. Read Theo in @TheFP here: thefp.com/p/syrias-new-r…

As important as the MAGA movement is, & as much as people appreciate the positive changes taking place, a healthy democracy requires an opposition. The Democrats need to find their footing and provide a meaningful check to power to keep the movement pure. Unchecked power corrupts
Ro Khanna@RoKhanna

Jim Barrett, a flight attendant, politely chased me down at Chicago Airport. "Sir, I am a Democrat but the way the party behaved was embarrassing. Made us look heartless. I don't care who is up there, you stand for the boy with cancer. Be more rational & get your act together."

Gavin Newsom is one of many Democrats who are dealing with the fact that their kids are turning to the political right. The fact that he admits it here is sort of politically stunning but make no mistake, this is happening to a lot of them.

There are many options one could make, but choosing the one that puts your country on the best path to peace is noble. Having humility is always a good move, and is a small price to pay in saving the lives of your people.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський@ZelenskyyUa

I would like to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace. None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts. We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky — ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure — and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same. Then we want to move very fast through all next stages and to work with the US to agree a strong final deal. We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. And we remember the moment when things changed when President Trump provided Ukraine with Javelins. We are grateful for this. Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive. Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it in any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a step toward greater security and solid security guarantees, and I truly hope it will work effectively.

1. Trump is more popular with young people than old people. Most young people don’t own stocks or homes (aka they are asset-light). 2. Trump is also more popular amongst working and middle class folks. Most of these folks are also asset-light. It stands to reason that a fall in asset prices (stocks down or home prices down) have very little impact on his core constituents. To that end, I won’t be surprised if Trump has little reaction, then, to an equity or home price market correction. Separately, the upside of shrinking these asset prices is that it gives the folks mentioned above a legitimate chance to buy into those markets at lower levels, making equity ownership and/or home ownership more possible. Tangentially, if Trump figures out how to get rents lower, he will unite young people and asset-light working people into a reliable voting block for the foreseeable future. He will have given them the trifecta: cheaper stocks, cheaper homes, lower rent. Said differently, don’t presume that the stock market going up is a useful barometer anymore. In fact, it going down may be a better signal for his popularity. Time will tell.
