Tonight, we had a resounding victory by electing Carl Wilson as our next City Council Member. Carl has been a friend and colleague for many years, and I couldn’t have been more proud to endorse him in this election. He built an unbelievable coalition that inspired voters across his district, and I can’t wait to welcome him as our next Council Member!

As the city faces a multibillion-dollar budget deficit, Council Speaker Julie Menin joined “Mornings On 1” Friday to lay out some of the ways the Council is proposing to save millions of dollars. She said there is an opportunity for savings by cutting some of the Department of Education's consulting contracts, saying the department spends $12 billion on those contracts.

Speaker Menin touting Council’s 100 days achievements.

On her 100th day leading the City Council, Speaker Julie Menin is touting a raft of achievements. She says the council has passed more than 111 bills and resolutions so far and overridden 17 of former Mayor Eric Adams’ vetoes - the latter being the most in history.

Speaking after @ZohranKMamdani at Al Sharpton’s @NationalAction convention, Speaker @JulieMenin says her work for the Black community includes saying NO to Mamdani’s budget proposal. “We’re also focused in the City Council on making sure that we are protecting the Black community, and by doing that, I say we have said a hard ‘No’ to raising property taxes 9.5%. That is unacceptable, because if we were to do that, we would be hurting black communities across our city.”
