@JoeyheronCSCS I’m convinced it comes down to a misunderstanding of what the pause on the box really is. Many coaches do not understand the concept of maintaining tension while on the box.

Congratulations to our Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Jack Rinzel on earning an opportunity to join the Carolina Hurricanes organization!
We're grateful for Jack’s investment in our players & can’t wait to see him impact athletes at the next level!

@StrengthDebates The “power row” sits with front squat as the best movements to build a big deadlift!
English

@mboyle1959 @WSWayland I’m not advocating for just hammering volume and intensity with these, but rather using them in intelligent doses to build resiliency and protect the shoulder from extremes seem in sport.
I have a lot of respect for you and use many of your methods myself!
English

@mboyle1959 @WSWayland Train a variety of positions to be resilient in all.
And if throwing athletes are prone to cuff issues (due to velocity in those positions) wouldn’t it make sense to train those potions with slower velocities during offseason periods when they aren’t throwing as often?
English

@mboyle1959 @WSWayland I’m not sure any joint was “intended” to perform 90+% of actions and demands that are present in sport. But it’s probably a good thing to expose the body to these extremes to build durability within them.
I love those floor slides, I use them frequently with my athletes!
English

@JackRinzel @WSWayland I’d say “maybe”? I like floor slides for mobility but prefer a dumbbell press for overhead strength? I’m not sure the shoulder joint was intended to be loaded in that much abduction and ER?

@mboyle1959 @WSWayland The poison is in the dose correct?
Devil’s advocate would point out the possibility that many would still be able to lift their arms overhead if they have done a couple sets of BTN OHP weekly for years.
English

@WSWayland It would be an interesting experiment to start a bunch of young athletes on behind the neck press and see if this holds up? Either way it’s an exercise most people shouldn’t do.
There a reason they don’t make you lift your arms overhead for airport screening anymore. 🤔

@ScottLeech72 Also - loved your presentation on contact prep for hockey players in the strength on ice seminar - Implemented it in the FB space but absolutely MONEY for our incoming 16U players being introduced to a very physical game for the first time
English

@ScottLeech72 At the highschool level for us, with our kids skating twice/day and playing 50+ games/year the entire time they are in town, WR work and playing the balancing act seems to be much more difficult than micro-dosing in-season field work. I see both viewpoints depending on setting
English

@Eric_Actual Good exercise. They’re nasty. He even explains why he’s using it in the post. Maybe you don’t need to use it and that’s okay, but don’t you think that maybe the reasons you don’t like it are why he likes it for his athletes?
English

Call me crazy but maybe just add weight instead of searching out unstable, mechanically disadvantaged lifting positions?
