This is why we always ask for Payslips. We Check everything, Arrears payment for a consultant who has been on the wrong increment ladder for 20+Years. Very hard to spot but after challenging the trust, a huge arrears payment. £85k Owed and now paid! result!

Thanks for raising this. I was also surprised by Tony’s thread and disappointed by how our involvement was misrepresented, especially as we exchanged DMs yesterday, which I answered in good faith. I explained that we simply provided a calculation tool (which matched Tony’s own results penny for penny), I pointed out The Times’ error on not using the actuarially reduced figure, and confirmed that the assumptions and scenario came entirely from The Times (we also provided The Times a quote to counter their narrative). I even encouraged Tony to challenge the numbers, as they don’t “reflect the reality on the ground,” and said I agreed that healthcare workers are significantly undervalued. I was disappointed to see that turned into a personal attack. I don’t understand the motivation and hope it’s just a misunderstanding. I’ve privately asked him to provide a correction. Those who know me and know Medifintech know that we stand up for healthcare workers and have been instrumental in righting many wrongs with the NHS Pension, and we’ll continue to do so.

Contingent Decisions (reinstating opted-out membership) is now open at NHSBSA. Be careful with quotes provided by NHSBSA; they can be misleading and often incorrect. They also do not consider the annual allowance effect or early retirement factors.

@dr_irfan_malik Definitely check! Getting the illustration is easy. (Ish) We also know the cost claim back scheme should cover professional fees up to £1500. So using a reputable 3rd party will help and should not see you out of pocket.

It should be an apportioned amount. If the contract is reinstated now and continued to age 60, additional pension would amount to around £6k. A courtesy check from administrators should notice that paying £37k to receive additional lump sum of £52k +£17k a year is incorrect.

However, this bit is incorrect: the full purchase is 7y 285days which would give additional £17k pension. really it should be £6k pension. so the quotes can be very misleading - i suspect poor understanding on NHSBSA behalf

💬 When I spoke to HMRC/HMT policy team we spoke about extending Scheme Pays deadlines for those with delayed RPSSs and they were optimistic ✅ Great to see it confirmed - now 6 July 2027 📌 Important for anyone wanting to use Scheme Pays for a new charge for 2019/20–2022/23

Good to talk with inews about opt-outs. "It’s entirely understandable that NHS workers are calling for fairer pay. If salaries aren’t keeping pace with the cost of living to the point where some feel they can’t afford to stay in the pension scheme, something clearly isn’t right." inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyl…

🚨 A new FOI request by Medifintech has revealed that the 2019/20 Annual Allowance Compensation Scheme is failing NHS members and falling far short of its promise to address financial losses. ❌ Nearly £31 million is set to be lost due to incomplete processes and confusing guidance. Good article by @CallumCMason highlighting the issue inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyl…

Some NHS members have received tens of thousands in tax refunds / compensation from their RPSS assessment. Here’s our Top 10 so far. The highest? £109,120🤯

🛠️ What can you do? We saw this issue coming. Medifintech (especially @Jack__Needham ) worked closely with NHSBSA and championed the case for affected members (It's why the only 3 that had a TTFAC, and didn't have to pay additional tax, were Medifintech clients) NHSBSA were thankfully receptive and helpful (after a lot of debate)🙏 Thanks to those efforts, we now have a fast-track process for eligible members to apply for a TTFAC before it’s too late.

148 NHS pension members collectively overpaid £600k in tax last year due to a combination of flawed legislation and administrative failings.🤯 There's another 14,000 GPs and consultants that could be impacted in the coming years. Here's a thread on what the problem is, who it impacts, and what you can do to ensure you don't pay tax when you don’t need to.👇🧵 (Especially useful for financial advisers / accountants, NHS pension members who received any pension before 6th April 2024 and pension geeks🤓)
