@ThinkethSo @BDuchek @4FAngusBoy Calved out a pot load of heifers for a neighbor for $250 a live calf plus feed and yardage. Also bought and calved another pot load of heifers and sold them as pairs. Calving heifers is where the money is. Nobody wants to hassle with em but I’ll do it and take their money

Looking at some market reports and the most money you could have made over the past 4 months would be buying bred cows last fall, calving them out and selling them this spring Doesn’t solve the cow numbers issue and highlights how skilled labour is going to limit expansion

@PUKU2Feeders Same. I’ve had 140 calves the last 10 days so the buzz stays pretty steady throughout the day

@6Shittalkerffs I give the oral drench to calves….. 5 ml at birth, 5 at branding, and 10 at weaning. Seen a lot of benefits from it in calf health

@MasonMayer26 That’s what I’m currently feeding 143 bred heifers. Wagon is full with that in there. My cows will be close to the same probably just a touch more distillers so probably be able to feed about the same number of head per load give or take.

Dad fed most of younger days with gas 460/f10 farmhand and a Kelly Ryan... thought it was really up town when he got a 1456/miller loader and Hydro70/Henkel 300 wagon. Dave sent us this wagon today to try out. Twice as Big as the Henke we had. Boy times have changed

@eichstadt_jay @MasonMayer26 I’ve had a FS700 for about 5/6 years and love it. I can put in 10,000 lbs of 46 mCal but it’s full. I’d love to go to an 850 but just can’t quite justify it yet.

Have a buddy looking to buy a 2015-2019 Merritt triple axel cattle pot. Lift axel is a plus, 1/2 or 3/4 jail, and crank up nose is also a plus. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Willing to travel for the right deal

@farm_smith @CBKimbrell Hear me out….Trump claims it under eminent domain after it sits empty, give the illegals they are rounding up a chance at citizenship by offering them work visas there, and it can only process USA born and raised beef.

@CBKimbrell The Lexington plant is worth more closed than sold for Tyson. I'd say there is another piece to the puzzle.

A lot of changes to the cattle sector in the last two weeks and none of it good. My 2¢: (probably more than it’s worth) I can’t help but think that if the Lexington processing plant were owned by an independent, it wouldn’t be closing. If things got so bad that the independent were facing bankruptcy, there would be an immediate sale of the plant and processing would continue under a new independent owner. This is one of the major problems with consolidation. They can throttle capacity (their plan released Friday will halt approximately 7.5% of the nation’s slaughter capacity) which will lower cattle prices and drive up prices for the consumer. When you have that much leverage, you have control. I see a lot of packer defenders saying “if they had control, they wouldn’t be losing money right now.” This argument seems reasonable until you realize that the shrinking cattle herd is due, in part, to their leverage over the cattle market which has systematically removed the incentive to increase herd numbers. I say “in part” because that’s not the only factor that set up this scenario. Cheap imports are another, although the beef packing cabal has a lot to do with that as well. Long story short, the beef herd is destined to continue to shrink if things continue as is. Everything from government actions to plant closures are pushing it this way. Dependence on foreign production seems to be the way of the powers that be. It’ll be our downfall as a nation at some point, but I reckon we’ll save a few bucks in the meantime.

The beef industry has seen a lot of pressure lately. dtnpf.com/agriculture/we…

@PlsntVlyFarmer Had some straw bales one summer blow over a highway, two 4 wire fences and both east and west bound lanes of interstate. They somehow stayed in one piece. No idea how 🤷🏻‍♂️

Back to reality. Tracked down 8 bales that crossed County 125, and another 8 that stopped in the first ditch. Wish someone had witnessed it.. I’d like to know how fast they were moving.

@josh_sayler Well uh I do a lot of business with the one in Kennebec. Probably the biggest agtegra location in the state. I’m pretty positive that they donate money directly to the locals schools not individual fundraisers.

Spent a couple days helping a friend put up oats silage. @tashley5 and I ran the cutters putting 46 ft into one windrow. Made quite the windrow for the chopper to pick up!
