@Jan04312302 Stover is likely being moved to FB & Brevin is still recovering from injury who may never be the same which even before wasn’t more than a solid TE2-3. Klein is at worst TE3.

@JacobBarzilla Draft position don’t mean anything for a rookie TE one of the most difficult positions for a rookie in the nfl, he’s still very raw. Probably will a couple of snaps a game till they see he can handle the main backup spot.

@lothbrook88 I know Stroud has praised him heavily & I think having somebody who has coached in similar offenses to Caley in the past helps (Popovich good example). I liked Jerrod and thought he was a little scapegoated but I get why the change was made and think Jerry will be good.

@JacobBarzilla Is it a good change? Based on what you know about him(qb coach)? Does it inspire confidence that CJ can progress?

Going back to last training camp, new QB Coach Jerry Schuplinski was very involved with QB C.J. Stroud & the room in general. His experience as a previous QB coach combined with having the relationships in the room likely made HOU feel comfortable making the change.

@Jan04312302 Klein is very clearly above Stover over Brevin just off draft position alone.

@JacobBarzilla Ain’t no way Klein competing for the 2nd spot at TE. It’s moreau vs stover/jordan. Maybe it’s stover vs brooks for the fb role

Texans & Ravens discussed a trade on day 2 involving Baltimore moving up to pick 59 & Texans moving back to 80 while adding a future 3rd. Baltimore wanted to move up for C Logan Jones or Jake Slaughter but seems like they thought that was too far to move up. Texans ended up picking TE Marlin Klein.

@imnotreal448 Just a competition of multiple games, Jordan is likely competing with British, Whittington and Hull for example.

Personal note: I joined @CShortsIII staff @HC_MustangsFB this Spring helping out with Wide Receivers. Doing it on a part time basis due to my schedule, but live right next to the school & got great fulfillment coaching these young adults this Spring & excited to help them this fall. Fellow Texans Jonathan Joseph & Earl Mitchell (@EarlMitchell90 ) are also on staff 🤘🏻

@GOrwell2020 This is probably the right answer, I think Higgins in the slot with Noel/Tank at Z is also something I’d like to see in situations.

@TexansJacob I think Dell is going to have a role on 3rd down, two minute situations, and will be used both in lieu of Higgins at the Z and Noel in the slot, as matchups dictate. Maybe 40-45% of offensive snaps, but this is best for both parties: need to keep him healthy

I’m very intrigued where Tank Dell slides into this WR room because I think the starting 3 are set with Nico, Higgins & Noel. Behind that I think Hutchinson is probably the priority backup for Z/Slot assuming Higgins is the backup X then maybe Tank competes with Hutchinson for the backup Z role? Houston seems to prioritize blocking from their slots too much for Tank to be an option there (he was a 80%+ player on the outside before injury) but Caley & Caserio have drafted guys to fill these roles already.

@stealswagin Noel was in the 96th percentile at beating press last year according to @RecepPerception, he’s very good at that even if small sample size.

Something the replies to this graphic have taught me is that people seem to have completely forgotten that Tank Dell has never been a slot receiver for the Texans. When I charted him for #ReceptionPerception as a rookie, he was awesome from the perimeter on big out-breaking routes against man coverage. That was his role and when he came back in 2024, Diggs was the slot receiver, not him. Now, I have no idea if Dell will even be a big factor or certainly if he can return to his 2023 form. I'm rooting for it because he's awesome. But if he does, my guess is that it will force a big rotation between Higgins, Dell and Noel behind Nico Collins and then none of those three end up clear 60% of the routes but they all get work. Not to mention this team may still play Xavier Hutchinson more than most suspect, as they did last year. The Texans have a clear WR1 and could end with a WR2 by pseudo-committee.

Jaylin Noel has a clear runway to be more involved in the Texans offense and showed promise in his limited opportunities as a rookie. 📈
