@pedersoncasey Hardin County here. Yesterday I went to Jackson, MN and roughly west of Albert Lea, spring planting is in full force. Meanwhile, I don’t see us turning a wheel until end of the week.

348 million acres of farmland was rented out in the USA in 2024, 79% was from non-farmers. “Here's what stands out: 95% of those rented acres are fully paid off. The average non-farming landlord is 69 years old, and more than a third are 75 or older. This older generation controls more than 40% of the acreage, rent, and total asset value while carrying just 20% of the debt.” How could young people get into farming or young farmers expand?

@SullyBusiness @Starbucks @7BrewCoffee 1. 7 Brew has more choices for kids. 2. 7 Brew focuses on drinks and stays out of culture debates 3. 7 Brew has clearly studied Chick-fil-A’s techniques for hammering vehicles through the line versus sitting in the Starbucks line for 25 minutes.

Alright 3pt planter people. I’ve never planted with one. I don’t need the lift assist on the 8420. My question is leave them on with floating top link, or take off and fix the top link and set it and forget it? #plant26

@MBousselot @RobSandIA Says the guy who is Bruce Rastetter’s personal advocate in the legislature; no thanks. And I’m a deep conservative, not a “lib.”

I don't disagree with that at all. It's a very nuanced problem to be able to make the voucher system work in the long-term. I love the concept of it. I love the idea of having autonomy over your own money. But my wife is a public school board member that got involved as a conservative and the budgetary realities for rural schools (not the easy to criticize DMPS) are impossible to ignore.

This @RepFeenstra is slippery slope. Dangerous for private schools and parental rights. “I’m supportive of the idea of ESAs (Education Savings Accounts),” Feenstra said. “I just will say this: that every school has to make sure they take every child." siouxcityjournal.com/news/state-reg…

@Runninrails @SteveDeaceShow @RandyFeenstra Private schools being able to filter who they accept is a problem and Republicans are recognizing it. Academics, IEPs, ELLs, etc. With that said, I do agree with @adamsteen that forcing a Christian school to accept a student with conflicting religious beliefs is a problem.

Steen is a better candidate. Feenstras people know public opinion is moving on vouchers and he's trying to get ahead of it. Rural schools are getting hit too hard, too fast by budget cuts. 90% of Iowans still use public school. The concept is great, but the math doesn’t work for the betterment of the general public.

@FrancesPatano I grew up with Rob and do believe he is a true moderate, not a Sanders or Newsom nut job. There are many, many things I disagree with Rob on but if Feenstra wins the R primary, Rob gets my vote.

@DeaceOnline @adamsteen Republicans in Iowa fully understand that private schools being able to filter which students are admitted is very bad optics for “educational freedom.” Feenstra is the first to almost publicly admit it.

@owengreeno @IowaStandard Explain. Today private schools are empowered to reject any student they want, all while still accepting ESAs. Meanwhile, public schools are required to accept every student.

We can solve this. And in fact, Robert Ray tried to prevent this. We already have anti-corporate farming laws (9H) on the books that he signed in the 1970s. Unfortunately, they have been not enforced and need to have loopholes closed. Bottom line is we need to completely revamp and enforce the 9H laws. Close all loopholes allowing institutional investors (pension funds, trusts, nonprofits) not actively engaged in farming from owning Iowa farmland. Delete 9H.4 exceptions that have allowed institutional investors to buy land - limit fiduciary trusts to active farming operations only. Greatly tighten acreage caps & add phase-out rules requiring non-farming institutions to divest holdings over 5 years. This would transition land ownership back to family farms, and stop corporate/institutional takeover of our family farms. Basically, this would do what Robert Ray and the legislature intended in the 1970s. We can now very clearly see why they were trying to stop this. It’s on us to follow through. This will be one of my major initiatives in my first term.

It is a much bigger issue than even I realized with Deseret. I’m clearly opposed to this exact kind of out of state land holding and it has to be majorly disincentivized. As an aside, I have friends in LDS leadership that are very very good people. Have already requested a meeting with Deseret to discuss this situation.

Many do not realize how many farmsteads have been lost over the last 70 years in the Midwest. To determine the change, I mapped out the locations of farmsteads that existed in the 1950's for my SC IA township using the Iowa Geographic Map Server. ortho.gis.iastate.edu (1/5)

@MrDanielBuck Correction: public education is legally required to educate all children whereas private schools are empowered to filter which students are admitted.
