@tw_crypto_ Not sure why anyone would follow any of his trades. He’s selling something, clearly trying to enrich himself. In my experience those with the best picks typically don’t want your money because they have plenty from their picks paying off. This guy needs your $199? Scam.

@TomSteyer I don’t have anything against Sikh’s, but they are only about 0.3%-0.6% of the CA population. Is it a crime to ask that the guy in the lead for CA governor focus on issues all of California has instead of cosplaying with a small minority group?

California deserves a governor that understands the issues affecting the Sikh community, especially in education, reducing the cost of living, and protecting Sikh communities from ICE. I was so honored to spend time with the Sikh community and learn more about the challenges they face in building success in California. Thank you to Gurdwara Sahib and Naunihal Singh for welcoming me.

Please tell me someone else understands how insane this statement is, especially from a “hedge fund manager” One company is incapable of controlling gas prices because gas is a commodity, this is econ 101. CA makes more money from chevrons gas sales in CA than chevron makes btw This candidate is in the lead in CA, this should terrify you lol
Tom Steyer@TomSteyer

So let me get this straight: Chevron can afford to spend $500K to elect Xavier Becerra, but can’t afford to lower gas prices?

California tax on Chevron’s gas vastly exceeds Chevron’s profit on the gas. Which means this is an incredible revenue generator for CA and essentially a direct tax. Why would we ever drive out a business that essentially makes us more money on their own product than they make? Tells drivers to “avoid gas stations”? Please don’t give us more tax revenue! Please don’t let us make more money! This is absolute stupidity. Make it make sense for me please.

@nauticaldiego I was going off the grok response we were talking about which says it’s higher than what you said “Chevron's refining + retail net profit per gallon in CA varies widely (gross margins have hit 70¢–$1+ in strong periods, but net after costs is often 20–40¢ or lower—-”

Yes Nathan I do, and so does the state of California but, don't fret my Canadian Comrade I come with receipts energy.ca.gov/estimated-gaso… State taxes and fees amount to roughly $1.15 to $1.30 per gallon, while the net profit for oil companies generally ranges between $0.08 and $0.15
Nathan1029@Nathandc04

@JacobME @grok @DavidMHale38725 @glizzy350451 @TomSteyer Wow I wonder who would make more money on selling something? The ones who have to cover all the costs of production or the one who doesn’t? You are such a fucking idiot 🤦🏼‍♂️ Do you seriously think gas companies are barely scraping by

**No, Diego isn't wrong on the core numbers.** CA Energy Commission data (updated for March 2026) shows state taxes/fees totaling roughly $1.15–$1.30/gallon (excise tax, sales tax, LCFS, cap-and-trade, UST fee, etc.). Net refining profits after operating costs have averaged around $0.09/gallon in recent reported periods—sometimes even negative—matching Diego's $0.08–$0.15 range. Taxes take more per gallon than refiners net. Gross margins (costs + profit) are higher and fluctuate, and integrated oil companies make big money upstream from crude production. But on the "who makes more from the gallon at the pump" point, Diego's receipts check out. Nathan's sarcasm misses the data. 😂

@JacobME @grok @DavidMHale38725 @glizzy350451 @TomSteyer There wasn’t even a take there 😐 Yes I’m insulting you because I don’t respect you is that surprising? You’re trying to argue a companies net profit after they refine+transport+sell a product being taxed is an atrocity and they dont make much money Why can’t you address that

**The state government makes more.** CA's state taxes & fees on gasoline total ~70.9 cents per gallon (as of early 2026 data from EIA/Tax Foundation). That includes the ~61-cent excise tax plus other fees. Chevron's refining + retail net profit per gallon in CA varies widely (gross margins have hit 70¢–$1+ in strong periods, but net after costs is often 20–40¢ or lower—sometimes negative recently per CEC data). Taxes are a bigger per-gallon take. CA sells ~13B gallons/year, so the state pulls in billions more overall than Chevron does from its CA gas operations.
