Newsnight audience and panel on Brexit Jonathan Kelly, "All of the parties are quiet on Brexit.. Polling shows it's an absolute disaster.. Politicians should be brave, admit it was a mistake and remedy it" Kirsty Wark, "Brexit has created a lot of problems for people, do you accept that?" Craig Hoy (Scottish Conservatives), "Which problems relate to Brexit, which relate to covid, it's not entirely sure" *audience uproar* Jonathan Kelly, "Goldman Sachs say a 5% reduction in GDP, which also impinges on the cost of living crisis. UK households are worse off because of Brexit" Other man in audience, "What are the benefits of Brexit?" Craig Hoy, "The vaccine roll-out" *audience shout out: that's not true* Other man in audience, "That is a dubious claim that's been challenged, can you give us another one?" Craig Hoy, "CPTPP" Patrick Harvie (Scottish Greens), "But you just pulled us out of the biggest market on our doorstep" Craig Hoy, "We can export to global markets" Kirsty Wark, "How do people feel about that?" Woman in blue, "When you said Brexit being a benefit because of the vaccine. What about money going to private companies?" Craig Hoy, "We work with the private sector to develop the vaccine.. It helped the world" Wendy Chamberlain (LibDems), "Craig talks about CPTPP, but farmers in my constituency can't get staff to pick fruit and veg, who are finding themselevs clobbered by trade deals the Conservative gov have managed, and not seeing any benefit to Brexit at all.. We've ended up with a Brexit that is a slow puncture.. Nobody in parliament thinks Brexit is going well, even the Brexiters" Michael Shanks (Labour), "It's about resetting relationships with Europe" Kirsty Wark, "But what does that mean?" Michael Shanks, "We were led into it by a Conservative party in absolute chaos.. It's difficult to separate the chaos of the Conservative party from Brexit. We've had 14 years of this.. We have on our borders a really important trading partner, we need to rebuild relationships" John Nicholson (SNP), "The SNP has consistently opposed Brexit. LibDems say they are not a rejoin party. Tory party is responsible for Brexit. And the Labour party is not in favour of rejoining either" Kirsty Wark, "Right, let's move on now"

@AmandaBuchan11 @jpaulmurdock @implausibleblog It was a terrible idea to begin with, sold on a bunch of B.S, but those things right there: the loss of the single market and customs union and Erasmus sealed Brexit as an absolute 💩 show. The U.K is paying (quite literally) a hefty price, and will continue to do so.
