@JacquesDexter We said post-DP. I know he used his veterans in the battle frontier and used Charizard in BW. So I ignored those. But I said “premise.” JN’s premise was completely different from the 3 series before it.

@champion_blaze That second part is just incorrect. He brought back Bulbasaur in Hoenn, the Battle Frontier exists and he brought back Charizard in BW. He also dapped up some older Pokémon in the field trip episode of SM.

@JacquesDexter The post-DP thing is accurate. But no series besides DP, had the premise that Ash could use veterans again or see them whenever he pleased. And all of JN is just surface level continuity. It’s all callbacks with no substance like 90% of the time

@champion_blaze The “water under the bridge” thing isn’t a Journeys thing, it’s a Pokémon post-DP thing. It’s a “we didn’t see or hear of Infernape again until JN” thing. And they focused on his new team bc that’s what they did the previous three gens. And apparently Infernape knew Fire Punch?

@JacquesDexter Infernape has Flare Blitz, Flamethower, Mach Punch and Dig. And it only became water under the bridge because of the poor writing of Journeys. They focused on his new team and at the last minute remembered he had old pokemon and said “you guys can kinda be mentors now.”

@champion_blaze They ignored it because by the time the Masters 8 rolled around, it was water under the bridge. And I’m talking about a HUGE disadvantage. A “Pikachu beats Mudsdale” disadvantage. Outside of Hydro Pump, Charizard v Blastoise was a neutral battle. Infernape had 3 fire type moves.

@JacquesDexter Nobody lifted an eyebrow when Ash’s Charizard beat Gary’s Blastoise.
And it doesn’t matter if the redemption wouldn’t be as fruitful. It still Stands that there was history there that they chose to ignore for reasons.

@champion_blaze But its redemption against Garchomp wouldn’t be anywhere near as fruitful as its redemption against Paul and Electivire. Plus whenever we’ve seen a Pokémon with a huge type disadvantage wins, everyone lifts an eyebrow.

@JacquesDexter It did nothing to earn a chance at battling Cynthia? Cynthia battled Infernape when Paul owned it as a chimchar. So this would be redemption for that loss. On top of it, a Pokemon with type disadvantage doesn’t need plot armor to win.

@champion_blaze You know why I call it cheap? I’m calling it cheap because Infernape did nothing to earn it. It’s a reason why I didn’t mind Ash using his Journeys team. And ima say this again: there is no way Infernape wins that battle without the most plot armour in the world.

@JacquesDexter Do you remember the ending of DP? While Flint battles Cynthia, Ash envisions himself battling Cynthia with his own Infernape. Cynthia also saw all of Infernape’s growth. That’s why there’s a connection and why fans wanted this battle. It’s not cheap, it’s narrative & story.

@champion_blaze I think Infernape would be too weak and I don’t get the connection. It was his ace in the series he met Cynthia, but that’s it. And it already had its climactic moment battling Paul. It would feel cheap to bring Infernape back for this battle.
