Rent controls are the equivalent to the energy price cap- which screwed us over, £15 min wage creates inflation and devalues jobs above £15 an hour, £40 for disabled is another benefit.

@THemingford It's not viable because the government tax absolutely everything, then when essential services like food, energy and water increase, the same government who are there to protect failed so miserably they almost look like they're supporting the corporations.

If paying people enough to live on "tanks your business", then the model was never viable. That is not an attack on small business, it is basic economics. You cannot build an economy on wages that do not cover the cost of living.

@bubbotron3000 @ndyRoo2 @Boba_Ball_ NI costs 2-2.5k on per employee on mine wage. That's still a net negative against the 5k min wage increase we can't stop them increasing prices. The tax free threshold should be 17k today with inflation. They have collected an increased 400B more in tax per year since 2020.

If I own business and I pay 3 people £10 per hour and the government then says I have to pay them £20 an hour what do you think would happen?

@bubbotron3000 @ndyRoo2 @Boba_Ball_ Minimum wage staff only pay £800 a year in NI. The increase of 5k in salary is still cancelled out. You can't stop a business from upping their prices to cover their costs. They should increase the tax free threshold to 20k rather than increase min wage to £15.

@bubbotron3000 @ndyRoo2 @Boba_Ball_ What tax break? Small businesses already pay low rates and min wage increase to £15 would cost them 5k per employee per year. Larger businesses will either increase their prices or make redundancies to cover the cost creating inflation.
