The torch march was secret and only select white nationalists were invited. They intentionally played on what they described to me as boomer sentimentality about confederate statues. But the point -- made clear in internal messages made public in court -- was a big street brawl

The 'hoax' claim is based on the idea Trump was right that there were some normal non-white nationalist people involved in Unite the Right. There weren't. It was conceived of by white nationalists at a white nationalist event 3 months earlier.
