An astonishing amount of very powerful people have now bent the knee and cynically pledged an unspoken allegiance to the incoming President. Trump first, and America second, is certainly the easiest path to retain or increase wealth and power.
America is entering a new phase.
@AlecStapp Yes, it was widely suspected that she was a fraud building a Potemkin village of a company but before the WSJ story people were afraid to speak ill of a high profile woman in tech.
Apparently an anonymous Theranos employee discussed the whole fraud (without naming the company) on a popular subreddit years before the WSJ broke the story
@PhotobombingC@kylegriffin1 He's almost certainly raped more children than most presidents. Found guilty of more felonies. Tried to overthrow the US government more often.
More like the infamous version of success though.
Michelle Obama: "Can someone tell me why we are once again holding Kamala to a higher standard than her opponent? We expect her to be intelligent and articulate. To have a clear set of policies. To never show too much anger. To prove time and time again that she belongs. But for Trump, we expect nothing at all."
ONE OF THE CRAZIEST POKER HANDS OF THE YEAR!!!!
@xxl23 has Pocket Aces, Dinho has Pocket Kings, @theKidATX flops the nut flush, and Corvette Mike has top pair!
You truly won't believe how this hand plays out🤯
@hankgreen@AndrewFazz I understand and respect your stance that there's more complexity than most people want to admit in lots of facets of life. But, still, one look at this guy's timeline and he's never going to believe anything approaching reality anytime soon. Can't you just hide awful replies?
@AndrewFazz Well, I think that’s because that’s what happened. I looked around a bit and it seems like the EMT thing happened earlier in the town hall. But I honestly would love to be corrected! Though, it would be great if, when you did it, you were a little less awful.
Trump trying out twenty nicknames for Kamala Harris and none of them sticking before resorting to just always mispronouncing it is the most middle-school shit I’ve ever seen.
just got to early voting and there are folks who have republican and democratic voting guides if you want them, but my democratic voting guide was handed to me by a precious older white man with a southern accent who had a "vote like your daughters depend on it" pin 🥺
@clhubes@capncharlotte This is probably genius. If you object you'll almost certainly say something and she can change it without problems.
Many years later I distinctly remember when wait staff looked at my parents to see if what I ordered was acceptable, and I definitely got some say in where we ate.
You have two choices. Which is more ethical.
A) Stab a guy to death.
B) Take two guys. Have each flip a coin. Anyone whose coin comes up heads, you stab to death.
@jackgeldhart@thesarahkelly I will happily ride into the future where 2 people are making a livable wage instead of 3 people making trash wages. Honestly not sure why you think that will be worse.
@thesarahkelly It doesn’t need to fully replace humans to affect a job market. If a bar that used to have 3 bar staff will switch to one with two robot barbacks, and if many bars will make such switch, the income potential of the remaining human bartenders will be depressed significantly
@tommartell@RadaNotSay Also increasing by the full amount, or more (100% paid by American consumers).
Dropping by the full amount also seems the least likely of the three options (but have no data to back that up).
@RadaNotSay It correctly explains the mechanics of payment. It does not get into the elasticity of the underlying pricing, which can go either way - the cost can range from staying the same (100% paid by American importers) to dropping by the full amount (100% paid by Chinese exporters).
Economics is one science that I never jived with at all but isn't this oversimplifying it a little the other way? I figured depending on many factors it can hurt OR boost internal economy, like by encouraging local giants to populate their supply chain with local manufacturers?
@zeta_globin Humans are terrible with randomness. Even people who have studied similar problems.
Would assume you didn't know about it because it's not real until someone points at some science, and would still be skeptical then.
am I the only person who didn't know that if you have two children of the same gender with the same partner, there's a 90% chance the third child is going to be the same gender
like five different parents in stem have told me this is an informal fact
@jasminericegirl Eh, surprisingly an annuity payout calc. on 12 million at 4% is about 10k a week for 60 years. So if you are young "c" might be better, depending on how taxes work.
@emilykmay@rachel_merker I mean it also seems so insane though. Dude is eating liquid meals instead of literally anything else?
And the one that popped up the other day about forced home birth turned out to be a dude doing weird hate fan fic.
@bmetz131@numberofeels@bradicalis@EndAllZoning@Aella_Girl I posted the current NASA science page on the current scientific concensus.
If you think you know/see something that 98%+ of climate scientists have missed because you read one newspaper article ... feel free to write an actual paper.
@bradicalis@bmetz131@EndAllZoning@Aella_Girl If you think you know/see something that 98%+ of climate scientists have missed ... feel free to write an actual paper.
Or, I guess, you can just spread things that are scientifically untrue on twitter because people in your bubble agree with you.
@RadaNotSay This is mostly a mix of classification.
There is no such thing as a "vegetable" from a science POV, the problem is chef's use that label and also use "fruit" but that has nothing to do with the science use of the label "fruit".
