Just experimenting with a new bump map transition effect in my 3D animation! Used a free skull model from printable_models on free3d. Created this in September 2022. #3Danimation #bumpmap #experiment

@VadimCarazan I wanted to say right at first, but I prefer the contrast of left after taking a closer look.

A lot of success boils down to understanding whether you are the kind of person who should stop overthinking or the kind of person who should take the time to think more deeply.

For our free newsletter this week, we address the connections between AI and religion.   @IrenaCronin and I write this newsletter every week.   As AI becomes increasingly integrated into human life, its intersection with religion raises profound questions about consciousness, morality, and the sacred. Religious traditions interpret AI in varied ways, some see it as a tool of divine co-creation, others as a sign of hubris. Theological debates now include whether AI could ever possess a soul or reflect the divine image. AI is also reshaping religious practice, from chatbots offering spiritual guidance to robotic clergy, while raising concerns about authenticity, surveillance, and ethical misuse. This ongoing encounter challenges both technology and faith to reflect, adapt, and engage with one another in meaningful ways.

@benhylak It’s tricky enough to design a single app solo… I think it would be an awesome personal project—albeit a little crazy. That’s my next goal. As a bonus I might as well design the phone’s physical form.

designing an operating system is infinitely more complex than most designers can imagine. there are so many corners. it's nearly impossible to get every detail right in one pass.

it’s entirely possible that consumer ai experiences trend toward auteurship. more akin to filmmaking than company building. one person w/ a taste advantage + technical leverage can ship something that feels alive. you don’t need a cofounder when your stack includes an llm, an agent, & some capital. the constraints are aesthetic, not infrastructure. success becomes less about ops & more about narrative, intuition, timing. feels like early youtube or indie games… weird, personal, & high variance. anyway, the best consumer ai experiences might look less like startups & more like art projects with a backend. this is what i am up to. excited to share more very very soon.

You know this will happen sooner or later, live, in passthrough, on your XR device. Experience the world your way, while staying connected to others and to what we all share: physical reality.

Products with extensive/rich UIs lots of sliders, switches, menus, with no scripting support, and built on opaque, custom, binary formats are ngmi in the era of heavy human+AI collaboration. If an LLM can't read the underlying representations and manipulate them and all of the related settings via scripting, then it also can't co-pilot your product with existing professionals and it doesn't allow vibe coding for the 100X more aspiring prosumers. Example high risk (binary objects/artifacts, no text DSL): every Adobe product, DAWs, CAD/3D Example medium-high risk (already partially text scriptable): Blender, Unity Example medium-low risk (mostly but not entirely text already, some automation/plugins ecosystem): Excel Example low risk (already just all text, lucky!): IDEs like VS Code, Figma, Jupyter, Obsidian, ... AIs will get better and better at human UIUX (Operator and friends), but I suspect the products that attempt to exclusively wait for this future without trying to meet the technology halfway where it is today are not going to have a good time.

🤯 How to generate VR/ 360° videos directly with VEO3 Alright, I just randomly stumbled on that very neat trick: If you prompt for a 360° video in VEO3 (like literally write "360°" ) it can generate a Monoscopic 360 video, then the next step is to inject the right metadata in your file so you can play it as an actual 360 video. I tried a few available solutions but in the end, using the Terminal was the only one actually working for me with ExifTool (ask ChatGPT or Gemini, it will give you the different steps to easily do it). Once it's saved with the right Metadata, it will be recognized as an actual 360/VR video, meaning you can just play it in VLC and drag your mouse to look around. Honestly impressed by how good it actually is. On the second video you'll see there's a black dot on the ceiling and the floor in the 360 version, but it's because of the black bars sometimes automatically added by VEO. To be fair, there's a light visible connection with most videos but it works impressively well for something which doesn't seem to be a planned feature.

The holy grail of text-to-app platforms like Bolt & Lovable is actually being able to take a Figma design and replicate it exactly with code. Yet it seems like an afterthought to most companies. I can't think of a more powerful feature as a designer.

Wow. No more waiting hours for COLMAP / SfM — you get live 3D Gaussian Splats straight from unposed images, even for massive scenes. Your 3D scene and camera poses are ready right as you finish capturing. Inria team cooked again; code drops end of May.

@OpenAI @OpenAI Thank you. Did you update the Whisper UX as well? I noticed it now auto-submits my voice as a prompt, rather than letting me re-record or adjust the transcribed text before sending. Could you please revert or provide an option to edit before submission?

By popular request, GPT-4.1 will be available directly in ChatGPT starting today. GPT-4.1 is a specialized model that excels at coding tasks & instruction following. Because it’s faster, it’s a great alternative to OpenAI o3 & o4-mini for everyday coding needs.
