@thomas_violence It was a lot harder to cut your spam back when it came with the little twist key to open the can rather than a ring pull.

The words "we're opposing..." never appear in my article and the PM knows this. We're literally fighting for billions of dollars of investment in hundreds of thousands of public homes and a freeze on rent increases. But you can read for yourself here: jacobin.com/2023/06/austra…

@Picketer Looking at the context, I don't think that's it. Instead he wants people you block to be able to read your posts and add community notes to them. Basically neuter the anti-harassment benefits of the feature.

@stilgherrian while the "WA Australian" one was presented by the Governor, broadcast on the ABC, and acted as a feeder for the national Australian of the Year award.

@stilgherrian One thing to keep in mind is that there are distinct "Western Australian of the Year" and "WA Australian of the Year" awards. I went to the award ceremonies for both one year. The "Western Australian" one felt almost pay for play, ...

@IwriteOK In Australia, I've been hearing ads for water during the podcasts. Not for a brand of bottled water: just the general concept of drinking water.

@castrojo I don't think "arm64" has ever been used by the ARM company: it's an informal name that is arguably more recognisable. Officially, you've got ARMv8 cores that can execute AArch64 and AArch32 programs, where AArch32 is the new name for the legacy 32-bit ISA.

@_msw_ @nytimes In the article, it says he tried to talk to the MPAA directly first. So it's on the more reasonable end of the spectrum of DMCA take down requests.

@_msw_ @nytimes Seperate from the question of llama's status, Open Source developers can and have used the DMCA to shutdown unlicensed distribution of their work.

@_msw_ But the work as a whole isn't under the Apache License. I guess I could claim my modifications are using the Apache License, but that seems like sophistry if I never distribute the source.

@_msw_ If I take some third party Apache Licensed code, modify it and distribute the binaries, does that count as "making available"? I'm certainly relying on the Apache License to distribute the binaries.

@Jazz_CB @sami_baaj @Leo_Puglisi6 Think about what that means though. Do you think any Labor or Liberal member would be allowed to sabotage major policy and remain in the party? Manchin stays because the alternative is him running as an independent, splitting the vote, and letting the Republicans win the seat.

i still don't get why you've got many in america pushing against ranked choice voting, especially for a presidential election would you not want third party votes to potentially go to your party through preferencing? why would you want spoiler candidates to still be a thing

@Jazz_CB @sami_baaj @Leo_Puglisi6 The US also effectively has a cross bench, in the form of members/senators the parties can't control. Look at how much trouble the Democrats have with Joe Manchin for instance.

@sami_baaj @Leo_Puglisi6 The question raised was about the US politicians arguing against it - that’s the reason. There are barely any 3rd party/independent voices in the HoR or senate, and even those that are aren’t really independent (Sanders for example).

@rachelrwithers Maybe he means "Being forced to articulate my policies would make it clear how abhorrent they are. It would then be politically impossible to implement those policies."

Tony Abbott continues to simply make shit up. "Sometimes a right to be consulted amounts to a right to veto." What does that even mean??? Does he not understand how words work?

@stilgherrian Maybe he's hoping the US tradition of politicians continuing to use titles after leaving office catches on here?

Something else to note about this thread is that Tim Wilson still has “MP” in his Twitter handle despite not being an MP for more than a year. Some might well consider that misrepresentation, or at the very least laziness.

#breaking An official rep for @zdaniel has clashed angrily with @TimWilsonMP after an ANZAC March and service in Beaumaris, Melbourne, after Wilson came forward & laid a wreath which the MC had just announced would be laid by the representative for Daniels as she was absent.

@Picketer Provided the foil is fully submerged, it doesn't sound as bad as that article makes out. The water is going to absorb most of the microwave energy, and will conduct away what the foil absorbs. And ensuring the egg only gets indirect heat reduces the chance of it exploding.
