1/3 Had a serious conversation today with Archbishop Thomas Tharayil of Changanassery about the FCRA Amendment Bill 2026 and its impact on Christian institutions in Kerala. The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, introduced in the Lok Sabha yesterday (on March 25, 2026), proposes sweeping changes to India’s foreign funding laws. For Christian institutions, especially in Kerala, which hosts a historic and extensive network of Christian-run hospitals, educational trusts, and social welfare NGOs, the proposed changes have triggered significant alarm. The new bill tightens state control over foreign-funded organizations in several unprecedented ways: * Asset Seizure by a "Designated Authority": The bill creates a central authority empowered to take control of an organization’s foreign funds and physical assets created from those funds. If an NGO's FCRA license is suspended, cancelled, or not renewed, the government can seize its properties and even sell them, depositing proceeds into the Consolidated Fund of India. * "Deemed Cessation" (Automatic Cancellation): If an organization fails to apply for renewal, or if its renewal is rejected, its FCRA registration automatically ceases. It immediately loses the right to use any foreign funds or tied assets. * Expanded Personal Liability: Legal liability now extends beyond primary office bearers to include all directors, trustees, and members of the governing body or managing committee. * Strict Timelines for Fund Usage: The government will dictate strict timelines for receiving and utilizing contributions, preventing organizations from holding foreign funds indefinitely. These provisions have grave implications for democracy and freedom in India.

Think of a house with four bedrooms. Islam is that house, and religion is only one room inside it. In other words, Islam is not only a religion, Islam has a religion. The jihadist “terrorists” and their supporters, the most faithful to the sacred text, whom you call “Islamists”, all live in that same house alongside so-called moderate Muslims, who are in reality non-Muslim Muslims. When jihadists spread terror across the neighborhood, or manipulate the HOA to take control of it, the other people living in the house tell you: We have nothing to do with the jihadists "Islamists." They don’t represent us. So what do you do? You go after the jihadists on the streets. You try to kill them, ban them, arrest them. But the problem is that more jihadists still live inside the house, and every day more non-Muslim Muslims become real Muslims and join them, and they will keep emerging, turning your life into hell. You go back to the so-called moderates in the house, and again they tell you: Those terrorists don’t represent us. We have nothing to do with them. You then say, Fine, let me go into the house and search for them. But they refuse and they call you Islamophobic, and their useful-idiot neighbors take to the streets to protest against you. At this point, no matter how many jihadists or "Islamists" you stop, unless you go into the house, the factory, and crush the ideological machine itself, namely the theology, you will never defeat Islamic jihad. And unless the “moderates” are forced to admit that jihadists "Islamists" do, in fact, represent the house, the cycle will continue. Countries like the UAE are members of that house, but they genuinely stand against jihadists. They don’t allow them inside their room, and they warn the neighbors about them. But the problem is that they still refuse to confront the fact that they belong to the same house. What needs to happen is a public, genuine admission by all the "moderates" in the house, those who oppose jihadists and those who justify or soften their terrorism, to admit that jihadists represent mainstream Islam and denounce the prophetic example of Muhammad. Only then can the theological machinery that keeps producing Islamic jihad be dismantled.

Tamilian birth rates are low and Tamil Nadu is a labour deficit area. Spoken Malayalam is very easy, with few irregularities in the verbs. Even its script is much more predictable and easier than the North Indian scripts. Once I was in a taxi in London with a Sikh driver and I thought he was going too slow. I was about to tell a relative in Malayalam that I wished the donkey would speed up a bit when he broke into very good Malayalam! He had lived in Kollum for some time.
