Half of UK universities face a deficit next year. Up to 50 could close.
That is a sector in crisis. Simply blaming a tuition fee freeze and nudging fees up with inflation is not a plan. Where is the long-term strategy for higher education?

@HappinessRpt "This approach is direct, efficient, globally comparable, and distinguishes wellbeing from what might explain it".
Nonsense.
Someone rings me at home to ask if I am happy. I say : not at all / my life is a complete failure!
Er, really???
On various dates throughout December, there will be engineering works and an amended service during the festive period.
On these dates, an amended timetable will be in operation Please check your journey before you travel - chilternrailways.co.uk/tickets-and-ti…
@JamesMurphy767 Regrettably, we have been unable to provide the required number of carriages each day to run our full timetable, and sometimes we have to make decisions on which services will be shorter based on the capacity available to us. ^BM
Apologies, due to a fault with the signalling system at Cradley Heath trains have to run at a reduced speed on the line towards Stourbridge Junction
Trains services running to, from or through these stations may be delayed by up to 10 minutes at present.
We will provide further information as it becomes available.
Please check your journey prior to travel via: journeycheck.com/chilternrailwa…
@JamesMurphy767 Hi James, I'm sorry if the service you are travelling on has been short formed, unfortunately due to some earlier delays some stock has been displaced. ^CN
@thetrainline Actually, we checked at Manchester station on Thursday 4 Dec to be told the service was running on the Saturday.
Not "last minute" at all. We waited for the confirmation email from Trainline. In vain.
@JamesMurphy767 As my colleague mentioned, we aim to notify passengers if there's changes to your journey. However, there's not always time to do this if a last minute reinstation has been made, as we rely on the confirmation from the operator prior to sending our emails/alerts. Thanks, - Jess
@JamesMurphy767 Our booking confirmation & ticket emails are generated automatically from an email which isn't monitored. I'm afraid we wouldn't have received your query seeking clarification. If you don't have the app, you can check a service here > bit.ly/3QnzQpv Thanks, - Jess
@JamesMurphy767 Hi James, If any change is made to a timetable, it can trigger an automated disruption email from us. We always recommend checking the App directly for the most up to date information as these can often be reinstated.

@thetrainline Let me repeat. I got an email from Trainline telling me that the Saturday train from Manchester was not running. This proved not to be the case. I had emailed back for clarification (given that I had already booked). No reply.
Are you happy with this service?
@JamesMurphy767 Our role is to provide a platform to search for and book journeys. The Booking Fee allows us to improve on our service, App and Website and is non-refundable, even in the event of disruption. Thanks, - Jess
@JamesMurphy767 We aim to notify passengers when there has been a change or disruption to your journey, however, this isn't always possible as we rely on the operator confirming this to us directly before we can send our emails/alerts (1/2) ...
@JamesMurphy767 Did you manage to make the journey and reach your destination station with the original tickets, or was the trip abandoned? Thanks, ~Cat
@JamesMurphy767 Hi James, we are running a services between Banbury and London today however this is not direct and involves changes with a rail replacement service. This is due to engineering works on the network. I apologise for any inconvenience caused. ~ AK
