You want the future of AI? Here’s the future of AI. A mother who is constantly trying to make you into a better person and she lives in your pocket. I have seen the future, and it is yenta.

@kevinnbass “Why are you sleeping so late?” “You need to get some exercise” “That girl is not right for you” “That friend of yours is bad news-stay away from him” “Look her in the eyes! She likes you!”

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C. S. Lewis

Amsterdam has now banned all public advertisements for meat products, in a bid to change "social norms" and reduce citydwellers' meat consumption by half by 2050. Green politicians like Anneke Veenhoff and Anke Bakker spearheaded the ban.

@olivia_p_walker @ProtesterLone Agreed! I look like a homeless man today, but I would never go to the grocery wearing this. Even outliers signal our nonconformity by making conscious fashion choices. One man’s slob is another man’s casual chic. I am strictly a jeans/T/Dansko’s guy.

@JamesPowerz2 @ProtesterLone Overall, there’s something to be said about this point but then there are some of us in-which the the Taylor Swift song becomes applicable 🤭, re: “I don’t dress for women, I don’t dress for men” (basically saying that she dresses for herself).

@olivia_p_walker @JamesPowerz2 Think of the attacks on Hegseth's wife for her "knock off" outfit by a foreign fashion influencer. One wrong accessory can be enough to set them off. Spend too much or too little, you lose. They never praise Melania, but they never criticize her either. Her choices are too good.

@JamesPowerz2 I do not disagree. Its persistence in many cultures proves that. But to design a dress, you first need - a pencil.

@Ib1netmon Fashion IS useful in any advanced human society. It is a powerful signal for self expression and identifying in-group membership. Status, profession, culture- all can be meaningfully measured by fashion.

@JamesPowerz2 Except pencils are actually useful, as opposed to what color your sweater is. There may be some societal value in fashion and it certainly generates economic activity, but you are not making pencils.

@JamesPowerz2 @johnkonrad All of them actually. Just because I want the same thing as every other first world nation doesn't make me a screaming bluehaired lib. No, most of my lib friends have ditched me for saying radical things like "Obama wasn't perfect, you know."

@bondibox @johnkonrad Let me guess- TransWomen are real women, global warming is an existential threat, and all Republicans are racist. You people are so pathetically brainwashed.

@JamesPowerz2 @johnkonrad Yeah, because obviously we've figured something out that the rest of the first world hasn't and we get so much benefit out of the $71 Billion a year the insurance companies siphon off as middlemen who ultimately deny coverage. Sure, sure. I'M the idiot in this picture.

@johnkonrad @bondibox I looked at his TL. Started to make a thoughtful reply until he said government nationalization of healthcare would be a good thing.
