Almost finished mapping invasive pampasgrass plants across 200-acre golf course. This project demonstrates a systematic approach using drones to gather info about golf course vegetation. Map will be used to design IPM plan for eradication + identify priority areas for monitoring

Today’s Q: do you recline your seat while flying? Seems like lots of commentors say it’s standard etiquette not to recline. I recline all the time and don’t mind when other do too. Didn’t know this was a thing.

@starsandrobots I love HANS! It is a great example of an engineering win. They studied what really kills people in auto racing crashes and designed a system to provide additional support. I know firsthand that they work having crashed a few times!

Yesterday discussing the function of this thing with an engineer who follows car racing, I learned a new term. Describing the way the airbag rigidly inflated and forced my head straight and cushioned my neck: “oh, like a HANS device.” What? “HANS. Head-and-neck-stabilizer”

Whoops!! My airbag helmet fired. Rode bike to work had just leaned bike against a wall, saw the bike about to fall over and leapt to grab it. One big surprising “Floom!” and I know I can trust @hovdingofficial with my life. This thing inflates *fast* and HARD.

@starsandrobots This thread is gold. This is the oldest tech book I own but also still somewhat useful. My Southbend is from the 1960's but the 1930's manual still applies!

@starsandrobots It may just work on wall power. Hard to know without seeing the circuit inside. If it goes to DC internally it will likely work fine. I have plugged my laptop into 400hz aviation power many times.

By my calculation, it should run terrestrially from a wall mains with a US:Japan converter to reduce from 120V to 100V and also to account for the change in frequency. Is there a chance this will work? (2) 🔌💡
