He said during Covid he was in a house with a bunch of his buddies and all of them would be drinking with each other constantly, so this is an issue that he had for at least a few years before this podcast appearance. Seems genuine tbh.

Western audiences have a hard time wrapping their heads around the concept of a villainous main character. They think "protagonist" and "hero" are the same thing.

there's a subsection of adults stuck in a state of perpetual arrested development. not because they don't have children (understanding not everyone can) but because they've never given themselves over to something bigger than their own comfort.
raising children forces that shift. it demands you live for someone else's future instead of your own present.. it found other places too.. real community work: volunteering, caregiving, mentoring someone who isn't yours, building something that outlasts your own interest in it. those things ask the same thing of you that parenthood does.
the common thread isn't parenthood.. it's sacrifice. what keeps people childish isn't the absence of kids, it's the absence of anything asked of them that they didn't choose for their own amusement.

If you watch Pirates of the Caribbean 2, you’ll realize how far we’ve fallen culturally. I thought that movie sucked when it came out over 20 years ago, but watching it with 2026 eyes, it’s a really well-made epic with a mediocre story. The fact that something I considered disappointing back then looks this good compared to what’s coming out now says a lot.

The things that Red Dead 2’s detractors tend to hate most about the game are precisely what makes it work so well as a western. It’s my favorite game in no small part because it’s so committed to recreating the tone and pacing of the genre, even when it clashes with game design
