@jo3hill @harry_qp Absolutely right. Transformatively improving planning, procurement etc would boost our standing in the bond market for those reasons. The rub is that incremental improvement wouldn't cut it.

@harry_qp Surely that isn’t right? Markets don’t just factor new borrowing commitments into their pricing? They’re also considering future ability to pay (affected by growth rates), and whether the absence of a policy (or an unrealistic policy) might demand future unplanned borrowing.

Everyone assumes RSI would lead to an intelligence explosion. Is that really the case? We tried to clean up the logic after 8 months of building RSI at the harness layer. Not all RSI is equal. We split it into 4 levels: delegation, net positive, ignition, and inflection. (1/9)

Less than 1% of all buildings in Greater London are listed. When we didn't have the stupid regulation and rules on new builds we still didn't install aircon, and we wouldn't now for the same reason in my post. Builders could not justify the cost for the 10 days a year we want it, and there's no retail advantage in having it.

British Open-ended Learning and Discovery Lab
Hello world :) We are BOLD — the British Open-ended Learning and Discovery Lab! BOLD is a new academic research lab fully focussed on paradigm breaking discoveries in fundamental AI. We work towards more efficient & open AI that is built around human needs and capabilities. To pursue these breakthroughs, we pioneer new modes of collaboration in academia that are more focussed, resourced, agile, and collaborative. Rather than fragmenting resources, today we are sunsetting 5 of the UKs leading AI labs to join forces under our joined scientific vision. Our vision is centered around three pillars: ⚡ Beyond backpropagation – questioning the foundations of the field. 🤝 Human-centric learning & discovery – treating humans as core to our algorithms 🤖 Embodied learning – fast learning and adapting methods that deal with the messy real world BOLD is backed by @UKRI_News and @EPSRC with £30M – and this is just the beginning. We are urgently looking for partners and sponsors to 10x this. 👉 ox.ac.uk/news/2026-06-2… 👉 bold-lab.ai @j_foerst, @CULLYAntoine, @tonizza82, @shimon8282, @tonizza82, Ani Calinescu & @_rockt

@rowlsmanthorpe If you form and bet on a team aiming for SOTA, you're ngmi. If you bet on someone w an all consuming obsession for AGI / aligned super-intelligence / open-endedness / etc...

Finally read this and it's as good as everyone says. The reason I'm not persuaded is because the question "What if a country REALLY tried to make a non-US frontier model?" isn't a hypothetical Someone did: the UEA If a place with bottomless sovereign wealth, the cheapest energy on earth and no elections can't manage it what chance do you give Europe?
Anton Leicht@anton_d_leicht

AI sovereignty debates dodge their own conclusion. If you really think frontier AI is critical and the US can't be trusted, there is only one path: build it yourself, whatever it takes. So let's drop the sovereignty theatre and look at how we'd pull off the middle power project.
