Sadly the NCMD report today, on child asthma & anaphylaxis deaths in England identified modifiable risk factors repeatedly published in UK reports in the last 60 years. It’s time for urgent National UK action to prevent asthma attacks and deaths. bit.ly/49Pg1BD

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: if the government wants to achieve its mission of reducing waiting lists, as do we all, maybe don’t charge up to 1,000,000% marginal rates of tax on overtime thanks to the stupid #taper #taxcliffe 👇@wesstreeting See the example below produced by GOVERNMENT in THEIR submission to DDRB. It shows how just £2 extra income in this case triggered *additional tax* of £22,026 - that’s a marginal tax rate of 1,101,300% !!!! Doctors want to help, but it’s never fair to expect anyone to ever #PayToWork @DanNeidle RT if you want to get rid of tapering @TheBMA

1/4 When even @DHSCgovuk are having to point out how useless the #taper tax is, you know its time to review this @TulipSiddiq @RachelReevesMP @wesstreeting In government's submission to DDRB today they give an example showing a £2 increase in non-pensionable income causing a

My emails are looking good. My bank account, not so much. 🤪 Llangollen’s my closest, but it annoyingly clashes with Glastonbury, so will have to see what happens on Sunday! Not that proximity matters when it comes to @wearejames. I mean, I also fancy Cardiff.

@cathjw @nightflightdan @usamabasit Spot on. I think a lot of the sift and sort/direct to specialty models forget how good we are at sorting out the undifferentiated patient and not clogging up the wards with unnecessary admissions. We are much more efficient at this.

@nightflightdan @usamabasit Because ED actually discharge most of the patients who attend without any need for speciality input. Because differentiating the undifferentiated requires more than a cursory look at triage. GP referrals should go direct to the speciality team not via of ED unless need resus

Why do (nearly) all patients get into hospital via ED? Why don't we do a pitstop triage/GP referral to MAU or SAU for those patients who don't need Emergency management. Seen/reviewed by acute med/acute surgical teams and admitted/discharged with advice. Small ED for resus pts ?

Humanists UK@Humanists_UK·
The surge in far-right demonstrations and racist violence across our country, targeting Muslims, asylum seekers, and others on account of their ethnicity or identity is contemptible and has no place in an open and democratic society. The violence started after lies were spread online that the perpetrator of murders in Southport was a Muslim asylum seeker. In fact, this was not the case – the accused is a British citizen, born in the UK. But this shouldn’t matter. Nothing justifies the violence that has followed. It is worrying seeing how easily misinformation has spread across social media, and how easily the far right has been able to organise. This reflects both a failure by social media platforms and the state to tackle misinformation and incitement online, and by the state to effectively counter the growth of far-right networks. Urgent action is needed on both fronts. Intimidation and violence directed at asylum seekers on the streets and in their own homes is particularly shocking. Asylum seekers are among the most vulnerable people in our society, often having fled persecution, violence, and abuse to get to the UK. Many have left everything behind and faced extremely difficult journeys. We support non-religious asylum seekers fleeing persecution because of their beliefs, so have seen this first hand. They should always be met with compassion and support, not further hatred in what should be their places of safety and shelter. The political and social atmosphere that has enabled this violence and emboldened racists is not new, but has been generated over many years. It must be addressed by a responsible change in rhetoric and approach from all public authorities and from the media. Equally, in a society that enshrines freedom or belief in our law, no-one should face discrimination, intimidation, or violence because of their religious beliefs or identity. Attacks on Muslims and on mosques are a sickening example of blind hate. Again this is nothing new. Muslims experience some of the highest levels of hate crime of any section of our society and we should all stand against anti-Muslim bigotry. How can we, as humanists, best respond to these events? Some will choose to take part in counter-rallies. This can be a proportionate and welcome response, where it assists the authorities in protecting people and property, but it is vital that it doesn’t engender more violence or hatred, or lead to people putting themselves at risk. We can all take heart from the many communities where people of different backgrounds, identities, and beliefs are coming together to clean up damage, make connections, and build community. These efforts are to be commended and we encourage humanists everywhere to take part. The future of the UK will be one of increasing diversity: diversity of ethnicities, opinions, identities, and beliefs. The actions of the people of good will who come together now will illuminate that future.

We’ve received a lot of messages in the last 24hrs, sorry I couldn’t reply to everyone but I’m sure you understand why. Thank you for your kindness and support, it means a lot. Teddy my 7 yr old daughter was at the horrific incident in Southport yesterday. She went in with her best friend, a friend she was so lucky to have; the smartest, prettiest little angel from the best family you could ever wish to know. It breaks my heart to say her little friend has been taken away from this cruel world. We just pray she is in peace and her family find the strength to get through this. Her Mum, My Dad an I were one of the first at scene, when only 3 officers present so the media reports of it being armed officers who detained him is not true - it was local, every day police officers. They defied orders and risked their own lives to protect the lives of children from our community. The things witnessed will live in our memories forever. Those same police officers; who get paid less than a McDonald’s manager, got home, hugged their own kids and got back up this morning to do it all again, are now being attacked on the streets. No matter what your political views are, they are not the problem. Please, for the sake of the poor victims and their families, STOP THE VIOLENCE. We will forever be in debt to Leanne, Heidi, Greg, Joel, John and every other hero who helped save so many lives. 💙 ❤️💜
