We welcome this view from Chief Commissioner Geraldine McGahey and the @EqualityCommNI It firmly supports our perspective that no one should be silenced or discriminated against because they have sex realist views. It clarifies some very important points: 1. The Fair Employment and Treatment (Northern Ireland) Order 1998 (‘FETO’) "prohibits discrimination and harassment against employees" and "service users on the grounds of the protected religious beliefs or political opinions that they hold, do not hold, or express." 2. It is "misleading and wrong" to suggest that "people who hold protected ‘gender critical beliefs'...are not entitled to hold those beliefs or should not be able to express them...". 3. It has been recognised in NI that "...‘gender critical beliefs’ were a protected ‘political opinion’ for the purposes of an employment-related claim under FETO." Thanks to Sara's case @SeeRedWoman1 4. "Employers and service providers should be...supported to ensure that their policies...are operating in a way that affords everyone dignity while at work or accessing services." Should you feel you are being discriminated against in work or by a service provider for your legally protected sex realist views please do reach out to ECNI for support. We are here to support as well, please reach out. equalityni.org/our-work/news/…
