What Is Wrong With Massachusetts? Op Ed Jon Fetherston What is wrong with Massachusetts? It’s a question that more and more residents are asking every single day. This is a state with incredible history, world class universities, thriving innovation hubs, and some of the most hardworking people in the country. Yet under one party rule, Massachusetts is in free fall. Our cities are less safe. Crime is rising while police are handcuffed by politicians more concerned with appeasing activists than protecting families. Tax dollars are wasted on endless “programs” that fail to deliver results, while basic services like safe streets and reliable transportation crumble. Governor Maura Healey and Mayor Michelle Wu have turned their backs on law and order, prioritizing illegal migrants and radical policies over the everyday needs of residents. Shelters are overflowing. Budgets are strained. And instead of solutions, we get spin, gaslighting, and press conferences that ignore the reality we see in our neighborhoods. The rainy-day fund is being drained, unemployment accounts are in peril, and when federal funds stop coming, the true cost of their reckless policies will hit every taxpayer. Even the state auditor blocked from auditing the legislature despite the voters’ demand for oversight, is waving red flags about corruption and waste. Massachusetts has every resource to be the best-run state in America. But until we demand accountability, transparency, and leaders who put residents first, we’ll keep spiraling down this dangerous path. The question isn’t just what is wrong with Massachusetts. The question is…when will we have the courage to fix it?
