- Drafted a blog post - Used an LLM to meticulously improve the argument over 4 hours. - Wow, feeling great, it’s so convincing! - Fun idea let’s ask it to argue the opposite. - LLM demolishes the entire argument and convinces me that the opposite is in fact true. - lol The LLMs may elicit an opinion when asked but are extremely competent in arguing almost any direction. This is actually super useful as a tool for forming your own opinions, just make sure to ask different directions and be careful with the sycophancy.

Exporting my Spotify songs to give to Claude for local concert recommendations felt like a great idea until I realized even niche bands at small venues now cost $150 a ticket. Ouch.

@JohnMatwey @andrewchen Immediately I thought of brands like Apple / Palmolive / Solo Stove / Claude (for consumer, not B2B) where paid media and marketing stunts helped launch dominant brands. But I think Andrew’s point was around transaction driving media, where costs scale with sales.

@andrewchen @andrewchen How does this apply to a company like Apple, which has consistently advertised? The iconic "think different" ads come to mind. Weren't they going up against the established firms such as IBM? Perhaps that is an exception to the rule?

lots of AI cos starting to experiment with paid marketing so here’s my take: Paid acquisition is a tax on your product's defensibility. the moment you can't out-spend the incumbents and competitors, you die. build channels that get cheaper as you grow or you're just renting your growth

@TVGrimReaper If companies believe there's a problem with The Gauge, they should fund improvements for Nielsen. With enough funding, I'm sure Nielsen could make the methodology exactly as correct as a company wishes.

The Gauge is primarily marketing for Nielsen. But it’s also creates a PR narrative around success/ decline for the companies involved. That’s why they’re upset about the methodology changes. It effects the *perception* of their businesses.

@RioLongacre Completely - I wish TTD luck on fighting to fix principal trading agreements within the ecosystem. It’s broken. But calling this into question now is like waging open war with HoldCos, which I can’t see as beneficial for TTD, short or longterm.

@JaredMagid Yep. Everyone knows PBM is probably wrong, but it’s the most fool-proof of way to make money in the media business while offering clients super low CPMs they are increasingly demanding. Take it away and the agency model is on shaky ground.

@RioLongacre Going to war with HoldCos is probably not great if most of your top clients are working with HoldCos
