If Miami had elected not to play ND this year and both teams played a lesser opponent in week 1…
- Miami would still be 10-2, with two unranked losses, no big win, and squarely out of the playoff.
- ND would likely be 11-1 and even more secure in the playoff spot
Playing ND is the ONLY reason Miami has a puncher’s chance at the playoff this year.
An opportunity for a marquee win with no conference implications is something everyone should want on their calendar.
It’s not Notre Dame’s fault that Miami got cooked in conference play by unranked conference opponents.
Miami has to own that.
