Apple’s greatest marketing move? Not the commercials. Not the stores. Not even the iPhone itself. It was the bubbles. Blue if you belong. Green if you don’t. See, Apple didn’t just make a phone. They made a social signal. A velvet rope. A cool kids’ table you could carry in your pocket. Suddenly, every group chat became a loyalty test. The second someone with a green bubble chimed in, the group chat turned into a tech support forum. Messages split weird. Videos came through looking like they were filmed on a toaster during a thunderstorm. You couldn’t even name the group properly. And everyone knew who caused it. No one wants to be the reason the chat sucks. So what do you do? You upgrade. You switch. You join the bubble club. It’s not peer pressure. It’s peer embarrassment. This wasn’t a glitch. It was marketing judo. Let the product sell itself by turning group texts into silent status battles. Brilliant. Petty. Incredibly effective. And all thanks to a little blue bubble. Feels like some simple @rorysutherland magic.
