Crucial question from senior MP @FloEshalomi to the Homelessness Minister ahead of the Budget on local housing allowance, which sets housing benefit levels. Frozen LHA rates are locking people out of homes they can afford. The Chancellor must end the freeze.

@BBCr4today 70% of local councils said that continuing the housing benefit freeze would be very unhelpful for reducing homelessness. The Chancellor must therefore restore housing benefit to the real cost of rent in the Autumn budget.

@BBCr4today So how do we respond? In the long term, we can’t miss this opportunity to lift hundreds of thousands of us out of poverty and to prevent more homelessness. The UK Gov must publish its long-term plan to end homelessness urgently, so that all of us have the foundation of a home.

This is an increase of 37% since 2020 and a 45% increase since 2012. The numbers of people having to sleep rough or stay in unsuitable temporary accommodation are up by around 150% each since 2020. More than 15,000 people were sleeping rough in England last year alone.

Growing up, Isra experienced homeless. Now she's studying medicine. Writing in the @guardian on the day we learn 172,000 children are stuck in temp accommodation, she makes an impassioned plea for ministers to build the affordable homes Britain needs. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

New funding announced today by @mhclg is very welcome. As winter approaches, more people face sleeping on cold streets or raising children in draughty temporary homes. We’re hopeful this marks another step towards an ambitious homelessness strategy. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Great to hear @SteveReedMP's first speech as Housing Secretary #LPC25 set tackling homelessness as a clear priority, with social homes and prevention at the heart of this. We look forward to continue working with Govt to achieve these ambitions so we can all have a safe home.

Housing benefit no longer covers the true cost of private rent – and it’s forcing people into poverty, ill health and homelessness. That’s plain wrong. I’ve asked the Chancellor to fix it with the Autumn Budget. Will you join me? @crisis_uk campaigns.crisis.org.uk/page/176409/ac…

Our Policy & Campaigns head @JasmineAmberB talked to the BBC this morning about the positive impact grants can have for people experiencing homelessness. Grants give people control over their future. Our own Changing Lives scheme has helped people set up their own businesses.

The Chancellor can either: 👉Keep pushing people into homelessness and spending billions on temporary accommodation 👉Or invest in a future built on secure and genuinely affordable social homes. @RachelReevesMP has an opportunity to build a lasting legacy. All eyes on 11 June.

Really pleased @Moneybox chose to shine a light on social housing, expertly covered by the brilliant @FelicityHannah. Our lack of social homes is a big driver of homelessness. Have a listen below to hear me & Alastair Smyth @natfednews deep dive into this important topic!

To ensure fewer children grow up homeless, the Westminster government must restore housing benefit so that it reflects the true cost of renting & invest in the 90,000 social homes we need each year. Join our campaign for a future free from Homelessness: crisis.org.uk/get-involved/c…
