Ten candidates to replace Hubert Davis at UNC. This list makes a lot of sense. Didn’t know Jawad Williams was developing a good coaching rep in the NBA. Do not discount the impact of a massive buyout on this process. UNC does not have unlimited money. si.com/college-basket…

Seems to be a shift in sentiment. Players coming out publicly like this is significant. Appears there is a decent chance Hubert keeps the job. My bet is he would have to make major staff changes though.

For the record, I love Coach Davis. We won a national championship and spent some amazing time together through the years. I hope we can keep HD and the current staff, while making whatever changes that need to be made to keep the UNC brand what it has been for so long!

@blakekcmo Hang on. The NCAA investigation was over in 2017... almost a decade ago. The notion it has any impact on Hubert is laughable Roy and Hubert didn't embrace OAD? Not true. They recruited them but could not land the elite players compared to Duke and other blue bloods.

How did #UNC get here? It’s more than just Hubert. A few thoughts: - drawn out NCAA investigation - RW not big on OADs - RW saw changing landscape he wanted no part of (NIL, portal), retired a bit prematurely - HD also not big on OADs - UNC transitioned poorly to new landscape

The Duke - TCU shot chart. Here is one team that embraces analytics and the concept of what a good shot is (3s and shots in the lane, especially at the rim) and one that takes a ton of awful mid-range jumpers. That's how one team shot 55% from the field and one shot 33%.

@andrewlayton9 I'm not saying they should be jacking up more 3s. I'm saying taking all those 2s from distance is a formula to have a terrible FG%. The difference in the shot charts is not the 3s, it is where the 2s are being taken. Duke charts this stuff religiously and hates the inefficient 2.

Respectfully, it’s not an analytics thing. TCU shot 33% as a team for the season from 3. It just is not a particularly makable shot for them. Of the five guys who shot over 100 three-pointers for TCU, only two shot better than 33%. Those two players were a combined 0-6 yesterday. Teams have to play to their strength. Why should they be jacking up a lot of threes if they’re not capable of making them?

You combine teams like Duke, Mich St., and UConn -- with fan bases that travel -- along with St. John's fans who are rabid for their first bite at NCAA success in a generation and this is what you get. DC NCAA ticket prices are outrageous!
