Beautiful afternoon out at Roger Williams Park with the RI Freedom Collective, @SCFJ_401, @RICAGV1, @MomsDemand, @NVIinstitute, representatives from D.A.R.E., and many others for a celebration of organizing for peace and safer communities. I'm thankful to everyone who showed up, to the performers and speakers for sharing their work, and to all who support this critical mission. Most especially, I'm grateful to the formerly incarcerated folks who step up to share their experiences and advocate for the changes we need in our criminal justice system.
We can make things better, and we will.

Thrilled to announce that after collecting over a thousand nomination signatures from Rhode Islanders across the state, more than 900 were validated for ballot qualification and we have officially been placed FIRST on the Democratic primary ballot.

I spoke with @FitzProv last month about the work we did in the legislature to curb ICE's activity in Rhode Island.
Today, this remains an urgent call to action. ICE's terror has turned deadly too many times. We will not collaborate with this.

In the 2026 legislative session we passed three bills to protect immigrants from being unconstitutionally targeted by federal immigration officials: ✅ We reduced the maximum sentence for misdemeanor offenses from one calendar year to 364 days, preventing immigrants from falling into deportation proceedings for misdemeanors. ✅ We passed the Protect Our Courts Act to maintain the sanctity of our judicial system and keep ICE out of our courts by preventing immigration detention inside our courts without judicial warrant. ✅ Through the Rhode Island Federal Constitution Defense Act, we implemented a civil cause of action enabling Rhode Islanders to sue when their Constitutional rights are violated by federal officials. I'm proud to stand up for our immigrant neighbors and I'll continue to do so as Attorney General.

Yet again in Texas and Maine, ICE is acting with impunity and recklessness as judge, jury and executioner. This is an outrage. When I am Attorney General, Rhode Island will not cooperate with this deeply racist, immoral organization in any way, shape or form.

I was proud work with my friend Rep. Speakman to secure a legislative grant supporting this summer's Warren Folks Festival. Local arts and music festivals strengthen our neighborhoods, support small businesses, and celebrate the creativity that makes Rhode Island such a special place to live.

Today the Assault Weapons Ban has officially gone into effect in Rhode Island, so I'm taking some time to look back on the journey to get here. In the time between passage of the AWB in June 2025 and now, Rhode Island has experienced two (!!) tragic mass shootings, underscoring the sense of urgency that proponents of my bill had carried through years and years of advocacy to get this across the finish line.
We can all breathe just a little easier today knowing that assault weapons can no longer be sold in Rhode Island. I'm so proud that we got this done. As Attorney General, I'll continue to champion gun safety and do all I can to keep Rhode Islanders safe. rhodeislandcurrent.com/2025/06/05/r-i…

Rhode Island's new Assault Weapons Ban went into effect 38 minutes ago, as the clock struck midnight on the end of Gun Violence Awareness Month.
Throughout my career in the legislature I've fought hard to improve our #GunSafety laws, and I'm so proud of this signature accomplishment.
As Attorney General I'll keep up the fight for a safer Rhode Island for all.

Now that nearly everyone carries a device capable of tracking their every move, it's encouraging to see the Supreme Court recognize that our location data deserves the same Fourth Amendment protections as the rest of our private lives.
As technology evolves, our laws must evolve with it. As Attorney General I'll fight to strengthen Rhode Island's data privacy laws so they keep pace with rapidly changing technology and ensure that every Rhode Islander's fundamental right to privacy is protected.
Our rights should be just as strong in the digital age as they are everywhere else.

Had a lot of fun at @NewportPrideRI this weekend to round out Pride Month. Pride is about more than celebration—it's about protecting the freedoms that generations fought to secure.
I was glad to connect with some organizations doing great work - like @RI_CARES, the Newport Democrats, League of Women Voters, Newport County Prevention Coalition, AMOR and the folks behind the Deportation Defense Hotline, and more organizations doing incredible work to strengthen our communities.
As Attorney General, I'll continue fighting to protect LGBTQ+ Rhode Islanders from discrimination, defend access to health care, and stand up to anyone who threatens our fundamental freedoms.
