He also strengthened control over refineries and expanded alternative energy through geothermal and hydroelectric development. Within this broader vision, the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) was conceived as a long-term solution because it would be a stable, large-scale power source that would free the country from overreliance on imported oil. Today, as Middle East tensions once again threaten energy stability, the same lesson applies: Energy security requires foresight. Reviving the BNPP is about finally completing a vision born out of crisis to ensure we won’t have to endure the effects of an oil crisis.
