I wonder if the Warriors would consider releasing Luke Metcalf to the Dragons before the June 30 deadline, especially given he’s currently struggling to crack the side. If that happened, New Zealand would likely free up cap space for the rest of 2026 and could potentially use it to front-load other contracts. That means they could bring forward payments for players already contracted in 2027, reducing those players’ cap hits next season and effectively creating more salary cap space for 2027.

🚨Luke Metcalf has agreed to join St George Illawarra on a three-year deal reportedly worth around $900,000 per season. Metcalf set to link up alongside Scott Drinkwater, Daniel Atkinson and Jacob Liddle in a completely revamped Dragons spine from next season. St George Illawarra have now added Drinkwater, Metcalf, Keaon Koloamatangi and Phillip Sami as they continue one of the NRL’s most aggressive recruitment drives. (@codesportsau)
