@LarryBirdStan33 @pj_schreiner And there was an easy way to force a one on one situation. Just have four offensive players move to one side of the court. The defense is forced to send four defenders their way. It made for very ugly basketball.

@pj_schreiner Did defensive 3 seconds exist back then? The answer is no. Teams could literally just park 2 big mother fuckers in the paint and protect the rim...little things like this matter when comparing eras...little brains like you and the rest of the children can't comprehend it.

Basketball has changed so much. In some ways, this shows more of a team sport and the development of complex plays. In other ways, this reveals how much slower, less aggressive, and less athletic the game was. Boomers and millennials are going to hate to hear this, but the reality is the 2026 OKC and Spurs would dominate both these teams.

@fbermingham She is an idiot of a foreign minister, no doubt. But in this case she is referring to Europe's economy as diseased. That is a decent analogy even if one might disagree. Subsidies as morphine. Structural reforms as chemo. All pretty acceptable.

I just got around to watching Kallas' full remarks - she went even further than "disease", describing China's economic policies as "a cancer" "If you have a very difficult disease, if you have a cancer, you have 2 choices. Either increase the morphine or you start chemotherapy"
Finbarr Bermingham tweet media

Politico has more on what Kallas said here: She Europe had “a very clear understanding of the diagnosis of the disease” when it came to China, but did not yet have an agreement on the cure. { Note: Beijing will not enjoy the descriptor "disease"

@LakerCj Eeryone thought Duncan needed to retire after that Memphis series because he couldn't move anymore due to his bum knee. He came back next year having dropped from 260lbs to 234lbs, fit a customized knee brace, and rejuvenated his career!

Hipster NBA loves Tim Duncan but completely ignores that this ever happened: Tim Duncan in 2008 lost to Kobe and the Lakers in 5 games. Tim Duncan in 2011, a top 6 players of all time supposedly, got outplayed by Zach Randolph in the first round of the playoffs losing in 6 games. (The Spurs were a #1 seed)

After China's cancellation of Meta's purchase of Manus, why would any founder start an AI company in China if they had a choice? In China you have access to less compute, less capital, and salaries are lower than in the West. And if you are so successful that a non-Chinese firm tries to acquire you for billions of dollars, the Chinese government will lure you back to Beijing, ban you from leaving the country, and take your profits by canceling the acquisition. Manus did everything right. They even moved their entire business to Singapore to comply with U.S. outbound investment restrictions. Their only mistake was that they originally founded the company in China. It's not even clear what it means for China to force Meta to unwind the transaction. Is it going to force Manus's researchers to return to China and place exit bans on them too? Is it going to force Manus's founders and shareholders to pay back $2 billion to Meta? This is what happens when you regulate by fiat rather than rule of law. Ultimately, this is a much larger defeat for the Chinese AI ecosystem than for the United States. Meta will be fine without Manus. But Chinese nationals looking to found AI companies will increasingly just start them overseas. The message from the Chinese government here is that every AI company founded in China will forever remain subject to Chinese government regulatory pressure and manipulation, regardless of its legal status or location. Lastly, given the Chinese government clearly believes that the US and Chinese AI ecosystems should be completely separate, we should stop helping their ecosystem succeed! China's AI companies remain extremely reliant on US compute, AI models, and chipmaking tools. If we tighten the screws on China's access to US tech, the Chinese ecosystem will be even less attractive to founders, and more will just start companies overseas.

If the goal of basketball is to win, and you can only win at the highest level with great teammates, why do we value players who do “more with less” than those who do “more with more”? Sure, Derrick White, Alex Caruso or Draymond Green in a #1 option role wouldn’t lift a lesser cast to playoff wins…. but does it matter? When great on-ball creators get their team to the playoffs and lose in the first round, we default to “once they get a cast around them….” instead of “how would this skill set look like on a team that actually has a chance to win?” The ability to complement other talented players is almost always more important than the ability to lift less talented players. It isn’t about “stars vs role players”, it’s about which skills lead to NBA championships. And those who can complement, or even enhance the best players in the league without diminishing any of their own value will always be among the most valuable.

@RasmusJarlov African countries and central Asian countries believe Europe doesn't want an equal and fair relationship. Perhaps South America but the US will clamp that down. Southeast Asia is well integrated into supply chains with China already. Who then does Europe have? The Middle East?

In the future, there will be three major powers in the world: China, USA, EU. Neutral countries will move as much as possible towards the EU as their preferred partner because both China and the USA treat other countries disrespectfully and try to extort them. Europe will be the only great power and market to turn to if you want to have an equal and fair relationship. Canada is already moving towards Europe for this exact reason. India and Japan will also form a closer relationship with Europe. This is what soft power means. MAGA replies in the comment section will prove the point.

Denver wins their 7th game in a row. Doesn’t quite feel like that highlighted by the well documented poor defense even in wins. A lot of incredible Jamal scoring nights, some really great Jokic moments. But Tim Hardaway left with an injury, PWat reinjured his hamstring (absolute disaster), and Spencer Jones also has a hamstring. Right when they got healthy. I have to point out that AG looked about 40% healthy in that game as well. Didn’t look good. Just still a lot of question marks.

This is & will always be a roster & system stat. in a system that is built around him. Of course it’s going to drop dramatically. It’s designed to operate around him when he’s on the floor & just survive when he’s not. Different than OKC or SAS, who have systems that operate with or without SGA or Wemby, just the systems elevate greatly when they’re on the floor. For Luka, LA system is not necessarily built around him, he just takes the ball & does his thing. When he’s off, they adjust accordingly (tho least successful of all teams here) Denver is built tailor made for Jokic & has no identity w/out him. Does not weaken or mitigate value, just contextualizes these stats that tell that story vs stats that say he’s more valuable than the other candidates.
Swipa@SwipaCam

The Luka Doncic MVP argument hinges on you believing he’s been the best offensive player in the NBA and I don’t know how you’d get there when Nikola Jokic is leading the best offensive in the NBA and has the biggest offensive point differential amount the MVP candidates. 127.6 O RTG +12.4 OFF +14.1 Net Swing You’d have to be erasing reality to do it.

No, I didn't leave it out. The Chinese and Soviet support was limited and mainly because of the 500,000-man invasionary force that LBJ sent against their client state. But so what? Had Vietnam gone red in 1962 no one would know the difference today---but 59,000 US soldiers would not have been killed and millions of vets would not have had lifetime wounds and traumas; upwards of a million Vietnamese civilians would not have been annihilated by US bombs, guns and napalm; and Vietnam would have ended up "red" for the next 64 years rather than the next 51 years as it actually happened. WTF did 13 years of extra military mayhem and slaughter in the cities and jungles of Vietnam do to enable any American to speak about this except with complete and everlasting shame!
Nat@Nat45672

@DA_Stockman Why do you leave out the fact that the Communists in Vietnam had the full backing of the Soviets and the Chinese Communists? Aren't facts relevant? The truth is the Vietnam War was a proxy war fought between the USA and the Russians/Chinese. And you choose to ignore the truth.

The "3 and D" label is the most flawed lazy analytic term in todays NBA 🤦🏽‍♂️ Its a big reason a lot of teams fail in the playoffs. These are actual 3 and D players: - Klay Thompson - James Posey - Shane Battier - Stephen Jackson - Bruce Bowen - Danny Green

Laziest comparison ever, Luka Doncic was a prodigy and is a generational talent. He has more triple-doubles at 27 than James Harden has in his entire 16 year career. Moreover, James Harden is a known playoff dropper, averaging just 23/6/7 for his career. Luka Doncic is second in NBA history with 31 ppg. to go along with 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Finally, Luka Doncic is a far better and more versatile defender. He is more efficient, and more clutch than James has ever been. So what are we left with?? That they both do step backs?? Neat. This comparison is making its rounds again with the media and former players, and it’s all meant to diminish how special Luka Doncic is. What they’re really trying to say is “He’s not special, we’ve seen this before”. They just never go into the specifics, because the comparison doesn’t make sense. Notice how they were eager to vote Harden as an MVP, but they always find a reason that Luka Doncic doesn’t deserve it?? I guess they don’t think they’re exactly alike!! Regardless, James Harden is as much like Luka Doncic, as Alperen Sengun is to Nikola Jokic. People are no longer buying what these retired, bitter, former players are selling anymore. You can keep your MVP, we know who he is. What Luka Doncic has done to this point in his career, is historic. Deal with it.

🚨 BOLTON WARNS EUROPE: THIS COULD BACKFIRE HARD John Bolton has just laid out a consequence European leaders may not have fully thought through. By dismissing Iran as “not our war”, Europe may be triggering something far bigger. Because the response from Donald Trump is predictable: “Then Ukraine isn’t our war either.” That’s the strategic risk. For years, Europe has leaned heavily on American: Military support Financial backing Security guarantees Particularly in Ukraine. But alliances are reciprocal. If Europe chooses to step back when the U.S. faces a major geopolitical confrontation… It opens the door for Washington to do the same. And that changes everything. Bolton’s warning cuts to the core of alliance politics: You don’t get to pick when solidarity applies. Because once that precedent is set… NATO cohesion fractures Support for Ukraine becomes uncertain And the entire Western alliance enters a new phase of transactional relationships Europe may think it’s avoiding escalation. But in reality, it may be inviting a strategic reset — one that leaves it far more exposed than before. The question now is whether European leaders recognise the gamble they’re making… Before the consequences arrive.

"**Eye-Opening Reality — A Lesson for African Leaders** Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad says: In 2004, Malaysia purchased 8 F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets from the United States, which were among the most advanced aircraft at the time. The value of this deal exceeded $640 million. After receiving the aircraft, Malaysia formed a team of experts and engineers to conduct a detailed study of their features and combat capabilities. 👈 The Malaysian experts discovered that the aircraft was transmitting every flight's information to a US military base, such as: - Flight altitude - Speed - Location - Route - Mission details - And the pilot's communication with the ground control room Not only that, but the aircraft's operating system and autopilot feature could also be controlled from the US base. This means that if a US officer on the ground simply presses a button, the aircraft's route can be changed, it can be crashed, or even the target of its attack can be altered. When Malaysia tried to modify the aircraft's operating system, the United States and manufacturer McDonnell Douglas strongly objected. They even threatened to stop supplying parts and maintenance, and impose restrictions. Even when Malaysia requested specific parts to activate certain capabilities of the aircraft, the company rejected that as well. Ultimately, Malaysia realized that it had bought aircraft that could not be used in actual combat without US approval. This issue is not limited to Malaysia alone; many Arab and Muslim countries face the same reality. **The lesson is clear:** Until a nation develops its own defense technology, it will remain dependent on others." (Source: TV interview on Al Jazeera with Mahathir Mohamad)
