Yay go team...I love Wisconsin but there are plenty of screwed up things happening here, as all places have. it's a line a map.

After a hard day at the office there’s nothing like pouring a nice whisky in your Grimace glass and reflecting upon where your life went wrong.

Wisconsin just approved a $203 million athletic department budget. First time ever over $200 million. That is a massive operation. One of the biggest in college sports. And even at that scale, the math is getting tighter. Ticket revenue is down more than $4 million year over year. Two straight losing football seasons are part of it, but the season ticket to single-game mix is shifting the wrong direction. That is a nationwide trend, not a Wisconsin trend. Their own CFO said maintaining balanced budgets going forward is going to "require significantly more work." Give Wisconsin credit for that. Most athletic departments do not talk publicly about the pressure building inside their own financials. Wisconsin is being transparent about what the numbers actually mean. That matters. But this is not a Wisconsin problem. It is the problem everywhere. Costs are going up every year. Revenue sharing is going up every year. And the revenue strategy at most athletic departments has not changed in 30 years. Tickets. Donors. Media rights. That is still the whole plan. Schools need new money that does not come from the same three buckets. Most are going to keep running a $200 million operation on a revenue model that was built for half that. And most of them do not have the Big Ten TV money to cushion it...
