@FabulousBS I’m betting on his draft pedigree, and Gujle is small, left handed and injured lots from his style of play. I think Reinbacher is going to be good, he’s just slowly coming out of that knee injury

@akaRCN I mean he’s the only legit NHLer in the deal, you need somebody in the deal that can play in the NHL lol I could see Dach and Zharovksy being swapped in for Demidov, and then some picks?

@JayManCroft I think you're on the right path but I dont see Demidov being in the hypothetical... Demidov-McDavid-Caufield Slafkovsky-Suzucki- Add in some picks... maybe Dach too

Rantanen went for Stankoven, 2 firsts and 2 seconds, and he’s not the player Mcdavid is. Demidov ~ Stankoven Mtl 1st ~ Dal 1st Hage ~ Dal 1st Then you upgrade on the 2nd rounds with Fowler and Reinbacher Thoughts?

Dean Evason is another guy who doesn’t get talked about much for the Oilers job & should in my mind. Did a great job in Minny & it became clear at the end of the season in Columbus that it was more of an issue in the room than Evason (who got them to overachieve the year prior)

@BeerLeagueHeroe I’ve never liked Laviolette. His last stint in NYR it felt like they were getting dominated every game and Shesterkin bailed them out. Always runs a short contract too, which makes me think the players hate him. Teams seem to quit on him early.

@Oil_Drop I still like Dickinson there, depending on contract. Wouldn’t mind Mcarron as well, with a possible Howard trade later in the year.

When you look at the Oilers upfront, barring any deals, they have 2 spots to fill. Preferably with guys who play with an edge, can help on the pk, in the dot & are good skaters: Savoie - McDavid - Hyman Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Howard RNH - ? - Frederic  Dach - Samanski - ?

Everyone’s talking about Bruce Cassidy as a head coach, but if Edmonton misses out on him , I’d take a serious look into: Todd Nelson Manny Malholtra Both guys have been cutting their teeth and are ready to take a step.

@coopsie39 @NHL_Sid He’s not coaching for 5 years in the NHL at best imo. Hes mentioned numerous times over the last couple years how his kids are young and he doesn’t wanna move around. I wonder about Donskov, but in reality none of us know how the players and coaches will mesh until it happens

@NHL_Sid I believe he’s unlikely to leave Denver for anywhere other than the Avs job as Bednar’s successor. My info is from a colleague/client who is an alumni of UD and retains strong connections to the program.

Cassidy is obviously my first choice. But if they can't hire him, I would rather have David Carle over the other options.

@bcurlock @RitchiewithaT IMO the argument would be better development of puck skills in CHL. More time on the ice, game situations etc. CHL will be the starting point for more players, and those who feel they need more physical development than puck development will take this route.

@RitchiewithaT 68 games is the issue plus lots of time on the iron lung. Definitely not fatal by any means. Just saying it has advantages.

@Ade780 Is this correct? For some reason I thought the new rules actually kicked in this year, like LTIR, etc. Or was it only some?

In the NHL, this will be the final off season you can sign your returning player to an eight-year extension. The NHL will change its maximum contract length to 7 years (for re-signing with the same team) and 6 years (for signing with a new team) effective September 16 2026.

@FabulousBS @jimmathesonnhl I agree Lazar is replaceable, but I don’t mind him at league minimum. He brings energy and versatility.

@jimmathesonnhl Trading, drafting and signing former Oil Kings stars has gone about badly as possible. Reinhart: 1st, 2nd rd picks. Played less than 30 gms Jarry: Skinner, 2nd, Kulak and 2yrs at $5.4M. League’s worst G. Lazar: Signed cheap 1 yr deal. Replaceable. Mitch Moroz: Drafted. Bust.

Like others who watched Oil Kings, I was Cossa fan. I remain one but facts are he is sitting in playoffs for Grand Rapids now. He has lots of talent and size but he has played one NHL game since 2021 draft. Yes Oilers should try and trade for him but he is far from sure thing

@JasonGregor @CoffeeSacred I think you can reasonably pinpoint Nuge/Hyman as needing decreased minutes in the future due to age and injury, and Mcmann as a reasonable target to replace those 5v5 minutes.

As expected, a bit overwhelmed, like most rookies. Also please name one speedy UFA available. A speedy winger is not even top five priority for EDM. EDM was the second fastest team in the NHL last year. They need to DEFEND better.

@nuuuuuuuge I think based off this, you can afford to sign Kapanen and use Hutson as the call up/extra forward for injuries. Add a forward at the deadline.

For what’s its worth Hyman-97-Savoie Podz-29-Howard Rnh-Dickinson-??? Freddy- samanski-Dach D core could see a big change. but as far as forwards go, unless they move Howard the pipeline has gotta keep going . Last forward options I wouldn’t mind Kapanen coming back

@Asnow119 I kinda wonder if we’re just blocking Samanski, (and Hutson and Howard) and Dickinson is going to age poorly. Same with Murphy and Emberson. Less worried there because we don’t have much for defence bubbling up, but these two moreso than Kap come with aging/skating concerns

If Muprhy signs for 4 I do it in a heartbeat. I think 5 on market. I only bring back Ingram if Jarry can be moved. I dont want that same duo. I let Kap walk at anything over 2M(move Janmark) Dickenson is fine. I extend. 4 probably isnt steep for a 3C in modern cap pricing?
Brandon@TheCity0fChamps

Bobs ball park prices: Dickenson $3.75M-$4M x 4 years Murphy $3.75M-$4M x 3 years Kapanen $2M-$2.5M x 2 years Ingram $2M-$2.5M x 2 years Roslovic $3M x 3 years Other than Ingram, id pass on all of them. My thoughts...

@NotoriousTIG94 Against Anaheim the oilers score was 3-7 at 5x5 with McDavid on the ice and 14-7 with him off. If Mcsavid is healthy what is the overall score ? Fix the PK, get healthy and bring back many of the same players
