@builder56207 I do think there’s a 2C there if he can stay healthy, but he’s losing runway.
At worst I think he could be a dominate shutdown 3C, he has the tools if he changes his style

You could say well they have cap space and it's one year. You could also say I wonder if his on-ice shooting pct is 15.79 in the playoffs again next year

I think you try a hard-match dzone line with dickinson and nuge, and rotate that wing spot between players and see if someone grabs it

@builder56207 If Dickinson put up more points he would be prime Danault and would get 7m on the market.
Personally I run him with Nuge and Hyman.
Let Kappy, Podz, Savoie and Howard run with the top two lines and spread out the offence over 3 lines.

To commit to Dickenson was to commit to a third line that will bring little to no offense. He will have to succeed in matching or this is a waste. Who will his linemates be? I can't see Howard there. It looks like the 4th line will also be low-event with Joseph, Jones. No Howard

Zellweger fills one of those rolls,
Ostlund, Kulich, Helenius will fill a top 6 roll with Tuch gone.
Don’t think they got much worse, if at all.

The other aspect folks don't consider is that CGY still has an incredibly strong group of future trade pieces, led by Frost and Whitecloud. You're going to get strong assets for both those players (assuming they move). And there will be more selling in the future.

Just comparing to Holloway, I knew Holloway could impact the game other than scoring, so no PP time wasn’t an issue. Same with Savoie.
Not sure about Howard, and those high AHL numbers involved PP time and mjnutes he wont get here likely.

Obviously you’re entitled to your own opinion, however I see a player in Ike Howard. Early on in the season he had some struggles adjusting to the pro game.
As the season progressed he got in some good reps with bako and I think he has adjusted

Honestly I’d be dealing Ike Howard during the offseason for something more impactful. Jared Mcann?
I just don’t think there is a top 6 NHLer there, imo he’s a 250 game floater.
No hate, I hope it works out, but I don’t see him impacting a Stanley Cup contender without PP time.

I wouldn't sign either of the three. What is the rush? Give Howard twenty games with either Draisatil and McDavid and see how that looks. The result of said trial run should be very informative for future plans

@easternrefugee I agree, I like how Hutson tracks down loose pucks, and he’s obviously skilled.
Nothing saying Howard can’t be this guy, but I have trouble envisioning him in that role right now

@JayManCroft Away from the puck and truly fight for it then yes. Hudson is a force to be reckoned with. He can be a wrecking ball in the corners or against the boards.

@stevezieskidoo @LKingston1197 It’s just being difficult to play against, battling and hounding loose pucks, and finishing checks when it’s possible.
It’s hard to justify, but everyone can tell when a team is tough or not.
Imo lots of issues stem from mean/dirty being misinterpreted for tough

I think it's true that the Oilers are not an especially tough team.
It's also true that toughness is coming back into fashion in the NHL.
But it's also true that Babcock was a very loud voice calling the rough stuff a nonsensical waste of time.
So I dunno. We'll see.

They have 6-8 guys that “could be in the top 6”.
They might have found money with Howard so find out.
If not there will be tons of options through the season.

@50in39 If your realistic top end is between Adam Gaudette/Josh Norris, why not trade that for someone who can help immediately? Especially if he’s only projecting to turn into Mcann at best, why not just trade for Mcann, and skip the developmental process.
IMO this isn’t Forsberg/Erat.

@50in39 The problem I have with it is his closest comparable all have some sort of outstanding traits.
Boldy, Caufield, Holloway, Debrincat are same age comparables, but they’re all much better skaters/bigger, and drafted higher.
Closest I can find is Josh Norris, which would be ideal.

@50in39 I’m aware, he has played other hockey though. I’m more willing to wait on someone like Hutson or Marjala, who don’t have as much trade value but put up similar AHL and college numbers.
Imo calling those two up/down and slowly developing does less reputation damage than Howard.

I feel like you gotta promote this like a blockbuster to grab more attention, and I didn’t see it much.

@Steele131 Which is fair, just think some of the newer DC fans are a little too quick to flip on what they'd being rattling off pre release. Same happened with Superman, they need to calm it a bit with the over egging as it only works against perception.

The problem is a team like Edmonton doesn’t have a ton of trade chips, so waiting and seeing gives the rest of the NHL the same amount of time to draw an opinion.
If it doesn’t go well, we’ve burnt a trade chip.
