@mnwsth How is someone with PhD better equipped to do all that you mentioned compared to someone with Masters + x years of experience in a field? In reality, very few PhDs create next set of jobs and currently there’s a huge surplus of underutilized PhDs in the Indian market.
English

One, because requirements for specialised skills will increase as the economy develops and moves up in the global value chain. Two, because an increase in the number of PhDs will increase the probability of producing the ones who will create the next set of jobs.
An academic job or a “research scientist” in an industry setting are not the only options anymore.
English

As terrible as the news is, but if it is an indication of things to come across the American academic ecosystem, Indian institutions should treat this as an opportunity. Some suggestions on what can be done:
1. Increase intake of PhD students across the board, especially in STEM. Earmark more money for PhD fellowships for the next 5 years.
2. Start more schemes like Ramalingaswami Fellowship across STEM while ensuring path to permanent employment for incoming fellows.
3. Start specialised schemes which allow PhD students with funded offers from top American universities to get lateral entry into PhD program at *any* Indian university (not just IIXs).
4. Start specialised campaigns to reach out to mid career faculty and provide folks with incentives (grants, lab spaces, fellowships for PhD students, the whole 9 yards) they will have a hard time refusing.
This could be the time for India's 1000 Talents program, if executed with a fatalistic sense of urgency, and with the co-operation of forward looking institutions willing to host and nurture such talent.

Our preprint is now online 🔗 arxiv.org/abs/2509.17937
With @HummerLab , we propose random compression as a quick, non-intuitive way to reduce the input feature space for MD trajectory analysis—while preserving metastable states & kinetics, and yielding more robust results.

@airindia Any update on AI 2028 (FRA-BOM) scheduled for 23 June 2025?
English

"As airspaces gradually reopen in certain parts of the Middle East, Air India will progressively resume flights to the region starting today, with most operations to and from the Middle East resuming from 25 June. Flights to and from Europe, previously cancelled, are also being progressively reinstated from today, while services to and from the East Coast of the U.S. and Canada will resume at the earliest opportunity. Some flights may experience delays or cancellations due to consequential impacts and extended re-routings/flight times, but we are committed to minimising disruptions and restoring our schedule integrity. Air India will continue to avoid airspaces assessed as unsafe at any given time. We will keep passengers informed of any updates and sincerely appreciate their understanding. The safety and security of our passengers, staff, and aircraft remain our top priority."

@airindia my flight AI 2028 (FRA-BOM) got cancelled just before boarding yesterday. I need to be in Bengaluru urgently and it has been impossible to contact with your customer support. I am calling your numbers for the past 5 hrs with no help. No reply to DMs either!
English

@airindia I have sent you details, please reply. It’s impossible to reach your customer support.

@Jayashrita Dear Ms. Debnath, we hear you and want to address your concern appropriately. Please help us with your booking details via DM to look into this.

“Amid the developing situation in the Middle East, Air India has ceased all operations to the region as well as to and from the East Coast of North America and Europe with immediate effect, until further notice. Our India-bound flights from North America are diverting back to their respective origins and others are being diverted back to India or re-routed away from the closed airspaces. We request the understanding of all passengers who may be affected by this disruption that’s beyond an airline’s control. Air India is in continuous consultation with its external security advisors and is vigilantly monitoring the evolving situation. We will keep our passengers informed of any updates. The safety and security of our passengers and staff remain our number one priority.”

@sumisaraf @airindia Air India staff at Frankfurt felt like the least prepared people of all. All I am grateful for is being stranded in Frankfurt instead of somewhere midair. Even Lufthansa has restarted it’s flights this morning while I am yet to get any clarity from Air India.
English

@airindia What about food and accommodation to the people suddenly stranded at the airport. Air india ground staff at Frankfurt is not helping & India customer care is saying airport authorities will help. They say war isn't our fault but is it passengers fault?

Biggest regret that I have in my life is taking a family member to @medanta . Money minded place, worst hospitality, pathetic lab services. These people did not even give us all reports when we changed hospital, asked us to visit doctor to fetch them. Literally played us. BEWARE
English

Some weeks ago, we went to @medanta for my father’s treatment. I have no words to describe the negligence and trauma they have caused to my family. We have been reaching out to their team for a crucial report and they won’t release it. Beware of @medanta

@medanta @AnukritiDebnath One thing is being short of expectations. @medanta is pathetic and plays with lives! We weren’t even given our reports because we refused to being treated by your insensitive doctor!

@IITKanpur It's interesting to see that unless there's some body forcing these groups to include women, they don't even notice that women are absent. Also, had I not been frustrated with all the news about plight of women in India today, I might not have tweeted this either.
