@Fchavezeptimes Ron was the youngest 5A head coach in Texas. I was 2nd. We played numerous times. Friendship and utmost respect developed…a friend you could always pick up where you left off. A great one in our profession…a great friend. Heart goes out to his family and great circle of friends

Nick Saban’s wife: “… ‘the process' will never go out of style: hard work, discipline, the relentless pursuit of a worthy goal, not cutting corners, and doing things the right way for the sake of constant personal improvement," she said. "Not for the scoreboard.”

That is how a high school builds a foundation. Invest in the feeder programs. @coachkevinrich has continued this at all his precious schools and that is why his programs are successful. More head coaches should take a look at this. @CanyonAthDept

Appreciate @coachkevinrich and the time he invests in our Junior High programs. 9am in Plainview for an 8th grade tournament. #TheWolfpackWay @WPHSbooster @WPlainsWolves @WPLadyWolvesBB @CanyonAthDept

IMO…6 phases of the game…you need to have a clear philosophy on all to reach your potential: 1. Transition defense/press 2. 1/2 court defense 3. Block out 4. Off transition/push 5. 1/2 court off. 6. Crash Daily emphasis w/practice plan, film…leads to standard=more wins

#FullCourtPressureManTips⚡️ The Run and Jump press keeps opponents guessing and they never know exactly when or where you are going to trap! Many variations to use with your team, including "50" to get a quick turnover! Deception is key! #GetBetterBasketball

Good coach=good thief Think of the coaches that impacted your philosophy and compile a list. X andO’s, philosophy, etc. Best advice for young coaches…study other successful coaches. Still doing it, though not young anymore! Don Meyer modeled this behavior well!!!

@CoachMikeDunlap Agree!!! Hardest coaches to play against…those who don’t let you run your stuff (imo). That disruption becomes part of team identity. Proactive not reactive.

@JimCondit1 @treymedlock There was nothing quite like watching a Hobbs Eagles game during Coach Tasker’s long run! A sight to behold. A nightmare to play them as a young head coach!

@Jeff14Evans @treymedlock Incredible program back in the day. I used to go watch them and was in awe of their athleticism and speed. They had a platoon system where they would sub in a fresh five every three minutes and those new players played at 100 mph.

Ralph Tasker, Hobbs, NM…1,122 wins…if you ever saw his teams or plyed them, were like no other. Passion/energy/toughness personified. His statement to me as a young coach: “We all get beat. You need to figure out how you’re willing to lose before you worry about winning.”

Doug Novak inspired offensive pillars that fit on a cocktail napkin (mine): 1. Get people moving 2. Get ball moving 3. Attack the space created 4. Get a paint touch 5. Make/teach good decisions off attack

Teams/coaches whose identity was undoubtedly their defense…always the ones I fear the most. Different methods for the manifestation of that identity…doesn’t matter…hard to run clean offense or a set…harder to score…harder to play against.

Simplify your core pillars on offense and defense, simple enough they would each fit on a cocktail napkin (Doug Novak). Everything you do in practice fits under the umbrella of one of those principles…and most days they all get addressed. A good template for practice-planning.

Summation: 3 Rules of Defense boiled down to simplest denominator: 1. Ball Pressure 2. No Splits 3. Block out
